I have read quite a few other threads about this topic, but have not found exactly what I am looking for, so...
I am considering getting my lower left lip pierced. First of all, I am unsure as to whether I should get it done with a stud or a ring. Which type of jewelery are you more likely to bite on, which is easier to clean, will either differ in gum/tooth recession, and will either of them affect healing time?
Also, will the type of jewelery chosen affect the angle of the hole? I heard somewhere that if you get a ring as opposed to a stud [or vise versa], the angle will be different for each one. Therefore, it would effect the jewelery put in later on after healing. For example, if I was to have a ring, then later put in a stud, it wouldn't sit right in the hole because of the angle. Is this true?
Any other advice aside from these questions are appreciated, as well!
    Thanks much
    :peace:

i have a ring in my left lower lip, which i pierced myself. i've also had a stud in it. it sat just fine. studs (you would need a labret stud for this) are a pain in the ass IMO for the lip as you bit the shit out of them. when i had a labret in the center of my lower lip it was a nightmare. the left lower it was a little easier but not as nice as the ring. i never bite on the ring, it doesn't ever hurt, or even touch my gums. it's great.

but yeah, a professional piercer will pierce at the best angle for the jewelry, so choose the one you want to primarily wear. but you can switch it out, it makes very little difference, in my opinion and experience.

The angle is only affected by how you pierce it.
I would go with a stud for the first few weeks because of swelling. Your lip is going to get a bit fat and since it is on the side it will be a bit more noticeable (The middle you can't tell as much). Studs are also easier to clean. After 4-6 weeks put in a ring and it will be fine.

Put some pix up after so we can see after haha

i have had my lip peirced 6 times and going with a hoop right away never turned out good. with a hoop, i eventually had to go to the piercer and tell him to put a stud in because the pain was unbearable. initally, the stud will have to be longer because your lip will swell and you will be likly to bite it if your not careful ( it hurts like hell) but once the swellling goes down, get a smaller stud and all should be good to go. not too sure about tooth/gum reccesion. studs heal much faster. the jewellery doesn't affect the hole angle whatsoever, as long as you have someone who is good at piercing to do it ( or if you are doing it yourself, make sure it is straight!) the hole should be fine

I had my lip pierced with a labret stud and can wear a bcr/circular barbell whenever without any problems.
I've heard that studs are better to get pierced with because a ring would move around more and annoying the piercing.
Also, if the piercing is placed correctly and the right size jewellery is worn then it shouldn't damage your teeth - the jewellery in my lip piercing doesn't even touch my teeth or gums.

I've had my lip pierced 4 times and I've always gotten a stud at first. Every professional I've talked to said that a stud in the beginning is the best. When your lip swells with a hoop it cuts into your lip. I changed my stud into a hoop after the 8 weeks and it still would swell every morning but it gets better. I'd only use a stud in the start.

I've had both sides of my lip done for almost 6 years now, you bite them a lot less when using a ring. I switched to studs a few years back and while I bit down on them a lot more, it was really only for a the first few months until I got use to them.

a stud would be your best bet in the beginning. Then after heal'd a hoop can be put in place just make sure its not too tight and not to big. Bandaid band wash in the clear blue bottle is great for the outside and Green mouthwash is good for the inside. Dont drink beer before heal'd cause theres a risk of a yeast infection in your mouth from the beer. Any type of body jewl will hurt your teeth, just dont play with it alot an brush good.[IMG]

green mouthwash? is that the brand, does it work good?

My piercer recommended biotene mouthwash(which I love) , and sea salt soaks for the outside.

I have my labret pierced- I should have changed out the long metal post sooner, the length did rub my gum -in front of one tooth, the gum did recede a teeny bit before I changed it :(. I have a much shorter bioflex post now, much better for teeth and gums than metal.

OH! InterestingI've never heard that. I am googling but not finding any info about it..hmm. I do know the yellow is reccomended to people with severe halitosis.

BUT...regardless of color, You should make sure to use a gentle alchol free mouthwash OR use sea salt rinse during healing time, after eat/drinking anything besides water.

I call bullshit on the different colors being bad for you, etc. Colors are all just food dyes used along with fake scents to make things seem minty or citrusy or very antibacterial.

What is probably being said is that a specific brand of a specific color has an active ingreddient that is bad for healing piercings. Brands containing alcohol are very harsh on healing tissue. Additionally, the alcohol can be drying, which leads to halitosis. Avoid alcohol based washes, and you'll be okay. Use gentle sea salt soaks until its healed, and you'll be great.

    Cheers

Good to know that you'll be able to help your baby out with his homework.

It is dumb to send people down the aisle looking for washes by color. Brand names/active ingredients to look for and avoid is useful. Telling people that colors are what makes or breaks the wash is counterproductive.

Well, personally I really doubt the colour matters. But I don't see why ahimsa had to get so emotional about it.

Well with my brand the green one was the alcohol free one. Maybe they color coordinate them, like crisps? It just makes it easier just to look and see if theres a green bottle, rather than check them all to see if they're alcohol free.

Not emotional, just annoyed that someone would give misleading advice. Half the washes on the shelf are green, so the advice to check colors is useless. Advice to avoid specific brands or ingredients, on the other hand, is extremely helpful.

In fact, I don't think me saying that looking for colors is bullshit is offensive. Giving attitude("I didn't ask for your bs") because somebody questions your logic and advice is.

But hey life is short. I apologize for my tone if it hurt. Just realize that you are making statements that many people less educated about the subject will take as gospel. As such, you should be specific and cautious with your statements.

    Cheers
