My friend and I are having a slight argument over the word both. She says bolth is correct and I of course disagree. How do you say and spell both/bolth?
If your friend puts an "L" in both she must talk like a hillbilly. I bet she also says mitten as mi-en without the t sound. And she eats pasghetti at the libary.
Well, she's from Texas, born and raised just like me. I have never heard anyone pronounce both as bolth until I met her. Her accent is no different from mine and we were raised in the same area by parents that are all from Texas as well. I have no idea where she got bolth from but it drives me insane when she says it!
Do you pronounce the L in "folk"? some people make fun of me when I say folk, because I pronounce it like it's spelled. they say it's pronounced "foke"
I do pronounce the L in folk. Where are you from? Do other pronounce it "foke" too? I also use the words wanna (want to), ya'll (you all) and fixin (as in: fixing to or about to) but that's typical Texas talk in most cases.
I'm from North Carolina. I don't really actually use the word "folk" that often, but when it comes up sometimes people will tell me the L is silent...i dunno. I use all those words too. I think it was more of a conscious decision to start using them though, just cause I like the sound of them. I don't think I started using some of those words until after high school. Some of my family uses that southern slang but most of them don't. It's kind of split.
It's weird how people pick up different dialects, especially when they are all from/live in the same area. Well, with exception of Mississippi. Everyone I have ever spoken to from there all sound exactly the same.
