Im 49 years old. Ive been married and divorced several times and Ive accepted the fact that Im just not meant to be married, Ive lived in a house most of my life and its only been in the past 10 years or so that I evolved my way of thinking to realize that i want to be one of those people that lives in a bus. I love to travel, Im single, dont need alot of space and have become very minimalistic over the years. My family and friends all think i am crazy and Ive got offers from several directions on a more permanant roof over my head. All are appealing in their own way but I feel the time is right to get the bus, Ive saved up for it and want to remodel it to be a home. Im just wondering what others might think? Should I accept one of the offers from family to have a permanant home or should i follow my dream and do the bus? I think I know the answer, but wanted to share my thoughts.
very very interersting tomming on this cause the situation im in relates so well we got a bus last year, whichg died quickly we're working on getting a new 1, one were sure will last, and a brother who was going to help with that decided the best thing to do was, buy a multifamily home, have a base, that funds a bus, rent out part, travel 3/4 ofg the year and have a hibernation station through the winter so i guess what my point is,m if your family or something is helping u get a permenant home, thats not such a bad thing to have when your wanderin the highways a place to park, a place that can be rented while your gone to keep ya goin, or stayed in if ya ever get stuck if its a matter of bus or place though only youd know but would be cool as hell to have a bus hey question the most perfect place we found, is a bit more then he wanted to spend maybe we could concider puttin everything together (its right now setup for 5 families we were thinkin 3 and a bartermart or somethin maybe cool) put together 2 busses just brainstormin since were pretty much in the same place i dunno whythe question i mean couldnt ya have both?
my family tried to give me a house . no thanks . i have a bus . some bare land would be ok to park on , which i already got just parking it out at the family farm . i lived it in for few years most all the time . moved it around just a bit - like some years just a couple hundred miles between summer and winter camps . i hate putting stinky gas in it . lately tho , i got a little truck for 25 bucks and move around in that . (like back to the bus when i want to) living in a tent near a town this winter , and haven't driven at all in a month or so . ideas about what is a home ? it's just an idea mostly . ain't the painted school bus romantic hippy ? a heart's delight ...and arts' d' light ... maybe i build a little house with mud and rocks and sticks sometime . that'd be good enough , and with no damn road to it . i'm 53 , so i just assume i get more sophisticated about idea . i don't know . just green and mossy 'rrr anyway .
If you want the bus, get the bus. Think about the bus in oregon.. and now it's a major major source of solar power? Hella cool. hella. And on top of the bus, is a garden. Of course if you want a girlfriend, eventually, you're gunna wanna get laid, and eventually, she's gunna be like "Sooooo.. you live here?"
Busses are cool if you can find places to park them.. They are kind of skinny but have plenty of windows.
My wife got a job in Florida last year and instead of renting a moving truck, I bought an old church bus. We moved from Ohio to Ocala in it and it kept our family safe and warm until we found a house. My kids think I'm crazy because little by little I'm fixing it up and I plan to move into it permanently sometime this year. Having gypsy blood in me probably helps, but I really enjoyed being able to move when I wanted.
I think if i was in your position, i would definitely go for the bus. I've had that same dream myself. I fantasize frequently about downsizing to an RV or bus & traveling around, and painting. I just don't have the money to do it though. *sigh* So yeah, i say go for the dream! Why not, if it can be done! I hear the road calling!
im in a similar situation lol. i have a gorgeous, little fantasy of a beachside cabin to live in that just suits me perfectly and i love it so much, but being stationary is just so not where my mind is right now. i want to be on the road, gypsy style. at least for a year or so and then see where im at. so i recently got a free shorty school bus that im in the process of converting and i plan on subletting my house and hitting the road at the end of the summer. do what your heart tells you to do and you will be happy
follow your dreams man ive been doing the bsu thing for about a decade, just moved intoa house. even now I spend most of my time at home in the driveway on my bus... just check your oil dude.....many a buses died cause folk driving them think there a car. if you need help in floorplans or interior construction questions of anykind, let me know, Ive gota crap load of history building buses, that bus that soaring eagles friend bought was my 8th bus haha dont think the dude will vouch for my engins but if he saw the interior hed vouche for that! there are a lot of folk out there in buses, and communities of buses travelling in caravans working together and living free. its rough life sometimes, but man its the best life!!!! peace
