i believe in a universe that is wonderfully stranger then what we pretend to know about what we don't,
one which also owes nothing to what we do.
one in which we are a very small part, one in which all of life is a very small part, even if it exists on one or more worlds in almost every solar system,
one in which, even then, 99.999...% of its mass is mineral. and we, an even smaller part of all of life.
one in which we can destroy all of life, including our own, on the one world that is known to enable our existence, which would not even be a little bit impressed by our doing so.
one which is constantly being formed and unformed, on a scale we can barely begin to imagine.
one in which our own species is simply not that important, and i am eternally grateful that it is not.
one who's diversity, the spitefulness of members of our own species, cannot rob those of us who enjoy its diversity, cannot rob it or ourselves of doing so.
yes i believe it more likely then not that we are not alone in our galaxy, though we might be, and probably are, within our own solar system.
as for weather or not we've been visited, or even are currently being, the jury is still out and may remain out for ever,
or until we grow up enough, to be an allie, instead of a hostile threat, the the rest of existence.
mature enough to recognize that everything else is no more all one way, then we are ourselves.
mature enough to realize that how each of us act, affects what each other of us experience.
that the great monuments of our past were not given us as toys by someone else, were not built with technologies we did not yet posses nor do so as yet now.
none of which means we can't have been visited or are being visited now, by observers from an institution of diverse species and worlds, who's intent is primarily neutral and impartial.
who's concern is for the well being of all worlds and species. a concern it is up to us to avoid ourselves becoming a threat to.

It is not simply okay for man to send all kinds of probes as far out in to space as possible to visit other planets and populate Mars with robots upon the one paw and at the same time question the existence of UFO's upon the other. Boring argument! Life in space is more possible than impossible because Earth is a boringly ordinary planet. I have never even seen an uninhabited planet. NEITHER HAVE ANY OF YOU!

earth's moon, while not a planet, though i think this is a bit of splitting hairs, has felt the imprint of a human occupied boot.
and i think we've all seen lots of pictures, or at least if we cared to look, sent back by all the probes that have sent pictures back,
of what appear to be lifeless places. of course i suppose we can never be sure life isn't merely camera shy.

one life baring planet per solar system seems likely a comfortable average. which still means billions of them,
just all but a handful, too far to get to from here, and of course the distance is the same in both directions.

as mentioned before, there are several known work arounds for the limitations if any, imposed by the speed of a photon and the relationship between mass and energy.
we don't KNOW that we haven't seen craft of alien origin. unknown simply means unknown.
