Whats up..I'm the living definition of a lost soul. I'm 29, no kids, no relatives (that Ive seen or spoken to in years), and no real "calling" in life. Presently, I am basically struggling to exist. I live in a small city in southwestern Ohio, where even dead end jobs are seemingly hard to come by. I don't own anything of any value, and pretty much live day to day by the grace of god. I dont think that I am a loser but at this point in my life I pretty much feel like one. For the past two years, I have considered joining a commune or doing something similar. Recently, I have considered just getting on my bike with my backpack and riding away...but where. Its hard to make it in the world alone, however. I have friends, but all of them have "lives", like kids, good jobs, mates, etc...I would appreciate any suggestions from anyone on what I should do with my time on this planet. Many thanks, B.

If I had your freedom, I would hop aboard my bike and pedal my ass toward the west, Places like Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Grand Canyon all need employees. Wonderful sites and always meeting new people as the tourist change daily, some good some not so good. If you are really looking for a job check out Union Pacific Employment as they are hiring and some thing you need to be available. check out www.up.com
look under employment, sounds like good pay to me. I was invited to an interview in Idaho but was unable to make it. Since you have no ties and you have a bike(pedal Power?) I assume and a backpack I would attempt to see whatever I could. I'm alot older and been married and raised two children and money isn't everything. I'm in Columbus, and would like to see Maine and Alaska before I die, I would love to take my wife to see the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, the Redwoods, however I got in the daily grind of working and having things such as an apartment, couple of cars just living the normal life which is boring. I would like to attempt to live off the land, go from town to town and do a afew odd jobs for a few bucks, buy rice and beans to eat, occaisonnally hunting, fishing forageing for some food, live off of human kindness, as long as you keep yourself looking halfway decent alot of folks would help. Good luck and think about what is important to you and what you want out of life.

From I understand, YellowSprings, OH is a hippie Commune...it's about 15-20 minutes from Dayton-Miamisburg...You should check it out.

Or maybe you should move to a diffent area in Ohio, there's usually alot of places hiring in bigger cities

Im kinda in the same boat you are it seems, trying to find a true meaning in life. Im from kettering so Im not really far from you at all, and I was also considering moving to yellow springs. I love in there, theres John Bryan state park, cliftin gorge right down the road, and a ton of good gentle people. I hope you find your way through these hard times and remember with hope, everything will come together.

Yellow Springs is definately cool. I grew up in Ohio myself and still have quite a bit of family there. I always stop by Yellow Springs when I'm around that area. It's such a beautiful town, and there are some really cool people there, although it does seem like some are sort of selling out lately..

But it's still one of my favorite places to visit..
So, what part of Ohio are you from anyway? I can understand why you'd be tired of it.. There are a few things I liked about Ohio, and it is better than where I'm at now, but it's not the greatest place in the world.
Maybe you should just go check out some communes and see if you find one you like.

Being in a position where you can do things on your own.... if I were you I would look into the peace corps or americorps, habitat for humanity, working on a cruise ship, or a place that you think is inspiring to live. Being solo makes it alot easier to make that happen, there's alot of great jobs out there that require relocating ,alot of people won't take because they have committments, you just need to plan out the details and do some research.
Just figure out what is important to you and what you would like to see :)

yellow springs is home to antioch college. which is a private school that ultra rich "hippies" send thier kids too. it costs near 40 grand a year, so as far as finding hippie drugs, youre in luck, but finding down to earth people is a little tougher.

I live about 45 mins from Lebanon, in Oxford. It's a nice town, though the hippee population is a bit scarce. The 'nati is an alright town. At least it has a good local music scene. C-bus is cool. You just got to watch out for those heavy metal clubs. :X

Question: What do you want out of life?

(edit) and I like Yellow Springs a lot. I like to go hiking around Glen Helen and drink water straight from the actual springs.

This is quite off topic, but I recently applied to Miami University, and I'm pretty confident that I'll be accepted. [IMG] You went there, right?
