Thought we could make a tripping guidelines / advice thread for those just entering the realm of lsd. I'll start with a couple of my general things I keep in mind: 1.It's never a good time to die. 2.Remain calm, you are not going crazy, the trip will eventually end. 3.Although you may see things that are not there, you will always see things that are there. In other words cars will not be invisible, you will see them. 4.Nobody can tell if you are tripping until you tell them "I'm tripping" 5.I won't go as far as saying that mirrors are evil - but they are definitely something to be careful with, especially if you are a beginner. 6. No HERO doses. Take how much you think you can handle. HERO doses will certainly result in a bad trip, an even worse trip to the hospital because you can't handle it, or a trip to jail. 7. Respect LSD, and research it before entering its world.
it's a good idea. i guess for me the main thing is the people i'm with. as long as i'm with good friends i will almost certainly not get into a bad trip, no matter where i am.
1. Relax. 2. No resistance. Don't fight or turn away from what you see or think, but don't get too attached or fixated either. 3. Trip where you're comfortable.
I think the deal with mirrors is pretty simple. if you normally enjoy what u see in the mirror, go ahead and stare into one on lsd, it might be educational. but if you normally don't like what u see in the mirror, probably don't do it on a trip. that's not to say that you can't get to a point where u do like what u see in the mirror, regardless of how you look. have prepared creative outlets, like drawing or writing or making music...whatever you are normally pretty good at. BUT be ready to totally abandon everything you planned, cuz you might be prompted to. a wide assortment of music is good, especially ambient, new age, minimalism...and your favorites. be open to new interests, you'll probably develop some. mostly, expect the unexpected. there is no typical trip. there are similarities, but its an issue of you, your mind, your soul. don't look at it as a drug-response issue. most of what you confront comes straight out of the same brain that's always been there. don't worry about what people have said about lsd, if you are comfortable with yourself, and are familiar with your psychology, it should be a wonderful adventure. that siad, it's still very helpful to read many trip stories, good and bad. just trust yourself and let the life and the light through. I don't now how much this last item matters, but I found that eliminating fat and meat from your diet for at least 3 days prior to tripping makes it cleaner and purer and less confusing. some folks fast entirely beforehand.
Rules for taking LSD? Dear God I hope no one is expecting this to get stickied. We have a Responsible Drug Users Oath already in place as it is people.
Rule 1. if you get confused, listen to the music play. If it doesn't work, your taste in music sucks.
yeah I sorta grimaced myself at the choice of words in the thread title, but i'm sure the thread starter didn't really mean "rules." The Oath is great as a general guide for all substances, but I think if one used it as the superior form of guidelines for an acid trip, they might limit or confine themselves to lower levels of preparedness than if they were to assume that there were set "rules" in the first place. I wouldn't say that academic preparation is even totally necessary for an acid trip, but if you're going to engage in it, it's good to glean advice from others, in any format. Yeah, I definitely think something like lsd should be treated much differently from other drugs alluded to in the Oath, esp. ego-boosting ones. If it helps curb the tendency for newcomers to get freaked out and subsequently slander LSD everywhere they go, I'll type all day about rules or advice. but that's a big "if "...
Yea I misworded it a bit, I don't really mean "rules," more like guidelines for the beginner tripper. I mean I wish I had known some of the things I know today before i had my 1st acid trip. So yea...guidelines and advice...
id say: when things get scary be absolutly sure to change your setting or music or somthing, and dont be to frightened to move and sit in a corner all night having the worst trip of your life, cause if you move, you'll be laughing within no time. its true and has been published that: when you start to see scary images in your mind, accept them. when you lay down your guard to some of the most disgusting disturbing images you will ever see, they suddenly go away and be replaced. when you hold your guard the images remain. a very imortant thing to remember. if you start to get stomach pains and other bodily aches or pains or anything like that, than it means you are tense, and you are fighting it. relax - let go - let it take you out of this world.
1. You can make the rules now, but as soon as you blossom into the LSD World, there will be none. 2. Little physical things that you trip on should be packed in a small bag/box and trips should be taken further with your selection of trip-things on seperate nights of tatking acid (i.e. come up off the sidney and dive into your box to re-life elements of previous trips, but refining them and taking them further...). Hard to explain.. I had an empty 20 bag of green with a cannabis leaf picture on it last time I was tripping. I started by spinning it round in circles between my finger and thumb. I felt the rotation, soon it was spinning around on it's own, emitting a ray of colour from the centre. That bag is a key physical object which bears a deep connection since that trip. 3. Don't listen to anyone. Make your own internal development of new thoughts. Listening to others has led to bad trips in the past (personally). 4. Acid is like Lego. You've got all the pieces, but it's simply up to you to make something of them. 5. Don't make any rational decisions while on acid. Your mind will need time to process what you're seeing, let alone what you think you're feeling about things.. 6.Ride it 'till the wheels fall off.
Well said, I agree with number three alot, I've always had some trouble with misinterpreting what others say when I am tripping, which has sometimes led to uncomfortable thoughts.
something i would like to add, if you are unexperienced with phychedelics, it is always best to have a "sitter". and that sitter should be someone you trust, and preferably someone who DOES have experience. I have heard of numerous cases where someone was having a bad trip, and theyre friend and sitter gave off an impatient negative attitude that completely fucked the trip and sent the person into complete panic. Your sitter should be someone who understands that if you feel freaked, they should be there to comfort you, and anything that causes uncomfortable feelings should be avoided. Never trip alone unless you are experienced, for the feeling of isolation is horrible and although usually just cited for propaganda, cases of people flying out of windows has occurred. i agree, these arent really rules, there are no "rules" for using acid or any psychedelic, its a personal experience with personal responsibility. but this thread seems to be about tips and guidelines for unexperienced which is a good topic for discussion in my opinion.
