Did you really payed $1000 for a mac? I mean that does sound ridiculous. Or you craiglist/ebay it. I currently have a 2007 13" mac, which I payed half price but the battery only last 2.5 hours. I know the newest mac which is mac air last for about 7 hours, so I would like to buy one. But is it all worth $1000?
Only you can answer that question. Is it worth $1000 to YOU? If you just surf the net with it, almost anything will do. What do you need the computer for?
I paid 1,250EU for mine in 2007, nearly 4 years ago. A month after I bought it it came down in price to 1,000. Since then I have had nothing but problems with it. First the ODD fucked up and had to be replaced. Then I had problems with the bluetooth mouse which I paid 79EU for! That's now in the bin and I use a logitech keyboard and mouse now. The screen goes black when I tilt it a certain way, so when I go to bed I have to put books underneath it to tilt it at the right angle so I can see the screen. The FAN has been a complete pain in the arse the whole time. It was apparently replaced with the screen when I had the ODD replaced, because it is on ALL the time and it makes the bottom of my screen go dark. It's also noisy as fuck. Don't waste your money on these machines, they are overpriced cheap shite.
One statement damning the whole product range based on one personal experience is hardly going to count as advice. I've had five Macs so far and not a single problem.
My mate has one and has the exact same problems as me. He has an external monitor connected to it so he can use it now. If you get one that works you are one of the lucky ones, if you don't then tough cookies, don't expect apple to fix it for you when the 1 year warranty runs out. + my OS constantly runs slow, I've tried reinstalling everything, but it just ends up with the same problems.
OS runs just fine here ... and has been for a long time. Nobody will fix anything once the warranty runs out .... at least not for free.
With apple products you don't expect to have to get things fixed within 3 years, or even one year. I think I have a dodgy mother board, and apple should have replaced with when i took it in to get fixed under warranty.
I'm slowly finding out ways to speed up my mac. For example, keep my history folder clear in safari or else everything runs slow. All it takes is one days worth of web browsing and it chugs along like a 486. Woohoo for safari!
Ya i used to only use safari but i was terribly mistaken. Try Chrome, it is consistently faster than almost any other browser i have tried on a mac or pc.
Might do. I tried it a while back, then it wouldn't work with GMail or facebook. The clearing history every 3 hours trick seems to work ok now that I've realised. I noticed this a couple of years of with iPhoto, if you don't put the photo libraries into the trash and empty the trash it also slows everything down. Either Mac OS X is shit, or I've got some hard ware problems, or a virus, or some dodgy third party software.
No, yours is broken:frown: Safari is actually pretty good, I have all three> Safari, Chrome & Firefox.
It still works though, just these minor problems that are always there. It's not died on me yet, but I'm expecting it might at any time.
My take is that either it's the 3rd party software or you need to do some serious cleanup on your HDD. If you need any help post more specifics. Few tips: read about cron jobs, get Diskwarrior if you like, use Lightroom instead of iPhoto, if you have tons of music and pictures get an external drive for storage.
It may be faster but personally I don't trust Google not to produce something that reports back every single keystroke. Maybe I'm too paranoid but there is already too much monitoring going on.
Thanks for the tips, will look into those. Already have 2 ext drives for my music though :2thumbsup: Maybe I have some errors on my HD, scared to put the disk in to try and fix it though...
i have a mac and i hate it. everyone said it was the best computer on the planet, never get any problems with macs. bullshit. i've had nothing but crap with it. when i first got it, it kept freezing and i had to manually restart as not even force quit worked....these were something called kernel panics which apparently noone can fix without you forking out loads of money, my power lead has fucked up twice in a year and are 60 quid to replace. everything is so damn difficult to do, as apple are just a bunch of money hungry cooperate assholes after as much cash from you as possible. and as most people work on windows, anyone sending attatchments or application forms - you can just about forget trying to fill them in or reading them in a logical way. i spend most of my time borrowing my boyfriends crappy old HP laptop which is about 8 years old, if i actually want to get any work done. sorry but i hate apple after having this computer and will never buy another apple product again.
macs are cool, it seems like everyone i know is in love with macs... i like pc's... for games and more computer for your money
