I do not like Malls. They are just a bunch of corporate bastards with shallow people wanting nothing but stuff. Why?

Hmmm, maybe because people like comfort and convenience? Just a shot in the dark...

Convenience, and food courts. The people love food courts.

I guess it's all what you do with it. I don't drive, so I need to combine trips as often as possible. The climate in my area (muggy summers, snowy winters and frequent rain year-round) and lack of other options send me to the mall. However, I shop when I need to, not as a hobby. I also use the mall as a place to do some walking just for sheer exercise.

On a side note, Have any of you ever thought how much power the general public would have if they refused to shop.

If the entire country didn't shop on a saturday, it would really make a mark.

If we didn't shop for a week, I bet we could get companies to do pretty much anything we wanted them to in order for them to get us back in their shops.

If the western world stopped shopping (and lets face it, we don't really need that extra pair of jeans/shoes/CD/Computer Game this weekend), then the whole global economy would have to question what it was going to do next.

As long as we the consumers keep shopping then it all keeps going.

Shopping is becoming as powerful as voting.

Next weekend, Don't shop, read a book, or if you have to, be careful where you shop, you could be supporting global oppression. You could be supporting Bush. You could be supporting Dictators in Africa.

And lets face it, If you shop in America, your pretty much joining together to build the Chinese economy. (not that I think thats a bad thing).

Just think about what you actually need to buy, save the rest of your money. Pay off some debts. really piss of the institution.

    Viva la Revolution

::sigh:: .....I just don't like the ppl. who ALWAYS hangs out at malls. You know...those girls who are always catching up on the latest trends while they are unknowingly turning into brand-name whores of young America.

Great site for anti-consumerism. Based UK though,

I'll try to find one for the US.

get in a mall and disrupt the mindless consumerism!
Like those guys who went into a Selfridge's in London, cxan't remember where I heard thisa, but they started worshipping the products. Huge effect.

i wish everyone would read that.
but, i have a job at a mall. if people didn't shop, i would be out of a job. i'm not an evil corp. i'm just a normal small town teenager trying to work for gas and food, and a little money to save for college. i need a job so i can drive to college and back. i wished that i could find a job that was worthy. but that is so hard to find in small town america. that is why i work there. i see people buying useless shit they don't need though. i think "do you really need another sweater? the newest xbox game?" it makes me so angry. i wish people could see. i know that i must forgive them though, because, after all it is not there fault really. i can not blame them for being ignorant and sucked into the consumerism. i think education is the key to bringing about a change. if this change is not made, humanity will never evolve. we will continue in this cycle.

i always hung out at the mall when i was 12-13. At the time, i ignorantly didn't see that there was anything else i could be doing. i met a lot of people at the mall, though. i learned a lot about people and consumerism. just because these are girls that are always at the mall doesn't mean they will turn into "brand-name whores of young America" just hope that someone will intervene in their lives and influence them so they Do NOT become that. perhaps that person could be you. why don't you try to befriend one of them sometime? it is really that simple. some of those girls might not be catching up on the latest trends, they may be studying social psychology or sociology. some people go to the mall to watch people, not to shop.
just have sympathy for those girls, and try to influence them in a positive way.

haha yep. Like the Gap tag game. Going into a Gap and posing as one of their sales reps and doing your best to get people to leave the store while still maintaining the cover. Whoever lasts the longest before getting kicked out wins. Loser buys the beers.
