does anyone else love them? I think they're really good, there music makes me feel like I"m really in the 60s for some reason. Especially California Dreamin and If You're going to San Francisco, the stuff about the flowers in your hair. peace
Yes, they were certainly a group well worth remembering. My favorite song is Creeque Alley and Cass Elliot's solo Dream a Little Dream of Me. Cass died a tragic death and her obesity made her a target for many horrible comments and stories. Thanks for reminding us of them.
Great band! I'm shocked to find that they're missing in my record collection. (Mental note to myself: Get a greatest hits compilation ASAP.)
yeah, that's what i have of them, a greatest hits type thing, don't have any of their albums though...
Abba's was good, a little too mainstream for me. (But I guess I've been fed it to much when I grew up, living in Sweden and all.)
they certainly had one of a kind harmonies, as well as a certain kitchiness that seems specific to that era.
I love the mamas and the papas. I wrote out a report for my History Of Rock n Roll class about them last year, and i wrote about how they make me want to sit in a field on a summer day smokin a joint. SanFrancisco isn't by them though, it's by Scott McKenzie...he wrote it for the Summer Of Love in 1967...It was actually a one hit wonder. But yeah, i LOVE that song too. No better way to send your mind to a little place in the 60s
good stuff.. i enjoy them but i dont own any of their cds.. maybe i should check out some other songs.. hmm, maybe
Yeah I love The Mamas and Papas...great harmony in their songs. I think the first CD I ever got was of a Greatest Hits of theirs. As far as Cass' "tragic death" goes...um...she choked while eating a ham sandwich...hahaha. Sorry, but that's fucking hilarious. A shame, but so funny...
I love the Mamas & Papas. I find their music to be uplifting and free-spirited, not to mention their harmony is beautiful. I think their sound is the epitome of what the 60's sound was overall.
Lucyinthesky, you're right that ScottMcKenzie had the big hit about San Francisco, but it was written by John Philipps of Mamas + Papas, so I presume it was originally recorded by them somewhere on an album, though not a hit single. Great track though + love California Dreamin' (great cover by BeachBoys in80's), Monday, Monday, Creeque Alley, Dream a Little Dream of me +It's Getting Better.
