i love weed, obvioulsy and if i could i'd smoke every day but when i've done that I seem to have serious short memory loss and i cant concentrate.
I've started university and i really need my brain cells to be working at 100%...sadly weed makes me feel all this so i cant smoke as often as i wish..
    it sucks.why does that happen?

its a drug, all drugs have sideaffects. i think its somehting to do with the various cannabinoid metabolites, but thats a guess based on almsot nothing.

anyway waht are you talking about, university is where the majority of weed smoking is. u fool! what do you think university is for

noone can use his brain at 100% efficieny. I've smoked weed all my university life and I'm about to start my masters degree. Marijuana causes brain cell loss, but what doesnt? I mean instead of "spending" my brain cells on smoking cigarettes (which i quit) I prefer marijuana. Plus, I think it enhances my imagination through the thoughts it invokes.

    *error buzz*

the biggest problem of all is that people think that since sotners seem dumber that brian cells are lost. there is absolutely no cell damage. overdosing on marijuana at the absolutely huge levels required would not be because of the cmeical killing cells, but because of the neurological effect of having more so much thc that all other neurotransmitters are flooded and disrupted enough to jsut end body function.

There is, but it's due to the carbon monoxide in the smoke, nothing to do with THC or other cannabinoids.

    Hahah, heaps....

anyway, bills right. the actual consumption of cannabis does not hurt the brain at alll, or even really any part of the body...its just the smoke that gets u. But its such a small percentage that drinkin 2 beers would probly cause more damage than smokin all day long...

smoking any kind of plant isn't good for you, but hell so is breathing LA air, so i guess you just choose your poision.

anyways if you think the ganja is affect your performence at the university then i think you should not smoke so much ganja to where your memory is affected cause ultimately you wanna do good in school or whatever your doing

I don't think anyone has mentioned melatonin yet.

Marijuana drains your melatonin supply. What is melatonin? It's a chemical that supports REM sleep. Coincidentally, REM sleep is when short-term memory is tranfered to long-term memory.

Many people take melatonin supplements to aid in memory loss for marijuana. It's as simple as that.

Also, the act of smoking itself causes brain damage. Due to the holding of the breathe, and the carbon monoxide. But THC does not.

No, the pigment is called melanin.

But that's interesting, Sagacious, because since I've been on this break from smoking, I've noticed I'm dreaming more. Or maybe just more vividly. Or maybe I'm just remembering them better. But the point is that I've noticed a difference!

haha i love the kids who are like "i smoke every day and i'm still just so smart!" like the 90 year olds who say "i smoked cigarettes everyday and it didn't kill me!" - i mean it doens't matter if it called 5 zillion other people, right? ;)

i do'nt know the technicalities of it, and i don't feel like looking them up, but marajuana deeeeefinitely affects your memory - and if you think you're so smart after smoking all the time, just imagine how well you'd be doing if you weren't.

    :)

memory has nothing to do with actual intellectual capabilities

thanks for fixing that confusion up, malatonin, melanin, melon, all moulds together in my brain :p

ive found that ive actualyl had less rememberable dreams since i started smoking. i often wake up after smoking, with the feeling like my mind had jsut had a really big dream, but not being able to remember anything about it.

though memory is not technically a measure of intelligence, memory has everything to do with how you perform in situations that test your capacity to remember things though, such as school, work, you know, life :p

so you could be the smartest kid on earth with a horrid memory, and everyone would think you're an idiot :D

I smoke nearly everyday before school and I have nearly straight A's... I never cheat either.
I've been smoking on a regular basis for 3 years, and Me or no one else has noticed a difference.
