Marijuana & Breastmilk

Does anyone know that there is THC in breastmilk? It's true. We give it to our babies so they get "The munchies" and they eat!

I don't know if anyone cares, but .. I thought it was pretty cool. I'm not saying smoke weed while you're breastfeeding, your kid might end up looking like a mcdonalds kid. Not a fact, but a theory.

 

Yes, THC passes into the breastmilk and can actually be detected in their urine. I never noticed my kids eating more or being sleepier or anything different in their behavior. I never smoked while pregnant, but I did regularly while nursing. I have a feeling this will bring up controversy, so I will say no more.

Drugs are bad...mmmmkay....

 

What about acid? Does acid affect breastmilk?

I've been wondering about how safe it is to smoke pot while breastfeeding. I haven't smoked since finding out I was pregnant. My friend has had a couple of sessions since her baby was born and said it didn't seem to affect him.
I don't know what to do. I really miss smoking pot

I know a woman who smoked during all three of her pregnancies and while breast feeding. Her kids are so intelligent and creative. That whole family is made up of cool ass people. It's just pot. Smoking while pregnant/breastfeeding could only help a child, in my opinion. I have no facts to base that on, but if we were able to properly study it I'm sure they'd be able to prove that it is in fact safe. It should be called an HERB, because that's what it is.

 

If you live in a place where it isn't legal, you might want to be careful. I know expectant moms in BC don't get tested, at least in some parts, because I lived there (and am going back soon) and I know a lot of women who smoked through their entire pregnancies and never got tested. Right now, I'm living in Florida (where I'm originally from) and I'm 8 months pregnant - the first appointment, they tested me. Since it came back positive, I've been tested every month since.

That said, my midwife told me that THC has never been proven to harm a developing fetus. However, any kind of smoke will at least slightly deprive them of oxygen. So if you don't get tested and still want to smoke, try a vaporizer, or eating it in food.

And there has been research done in a few places (Jamaica and Costa Rica, I'm pretty sure..) that shows that THC doesn't do any damage to development. And most of the babies of moms that smoked throughout their pregnancies actually scored higher in development tests at 3 months than babies of moms that didn't smoke.

I never said to smoke pot while you're pregnant or breastfeeding. Your body gives it off naturally when you first start breastfeeding, as in.. no herbs needed. I'll try to find the source again but.. I don't smoke pot.. anymore.

It is the most selfish thing to do while your pregnant. Its like drinking while pregnant.

What research do you have to back up your theory that its just as bad as drinking? I'm much more inclined to listen to DeathRowDisco who seems intelligent and has some facts to back up her opinion.

No, I wouldn't jump off a bridge too but I'm pretty sure that humans just don't randomly jump off bridges for spiritual enlightment or relaxation, or to cure cancer.

Not only that, You don't even have to smoke the marijuana to get the THC in your breastmilk the first time you feed your baby. I already said that.

I knew what you were talking about with it already being there (though I'd never heard it before, and I'm not sure about that one) but I figured since a couple people were talking about whether or not it's safe to actually smoke pot when you're breastfeeding, I figured I'd clear that one up, too.

fricknfrack, I don't know where you got the idea that it's just as bad as drinking. Like I said, of course smoke is harmful to a fetus, but THC itself isn't at all. I probably know at least 50 women who smoked while they were pregnant... from girls my age with young babies, to older women with kids my age or older... I've never heard of it having any ill effects, and like I said, they HAVE done studies in places where it's legal.

 

Getting pregnant is the one thing that terrifies me about smoking pot. I'm not sure what the laws are here in Texas and if they only drug test mothers on Medicaid or some other kind of government help, but most of the girls I've known who were pregnant recently got drug tested every two weeks and if you popped a dirty test, your kid would get taken from you after delivery. That's SO scary because if I got pregnant, of course I'd stop smoking until I had the baby, but you don't always know right away. *shudders*

 

What a frightening reality. How in the fuck does big brother get away with something like this!

How can you drug test an expectant mother for simply being pregnant (and automatically assume that she does drugs; not that it's any of their business anyway)? It's a load of crap.

 

I know, isn't that scary? My friend who just got home with her beautiful new baby girl was drug tested every two weeks and never smoked in her life, but her Mom does and she almost failed because of secondhand pot smoke. How retarded!
