I was on the bus a few weeks ago, and there was this marine on his cellphone talking to what seemed to be another soldier; he started talking bad about Obama, women, liberals, etc.. I wasn't gonna say anything! Then the guy next to him politely asked him to be respectful. The marine goes into like a roid rage at the poor guy. I can't stand to see bullying, so i speak up. He starts ranting and cussing at me, calling me a bitch, and says loud enough for everyone on the bus to hear; "civilians are pieces of shit!" and, "civilians ain't shit!" (articulate, isn't he?) he towering over me; a petite female. He's massive, probably on steroids, in attack body language. I'm sitting, being quite calm and peaceful. He's screaming like a lunatic. He starts going on again about hating civilians; I asked him if that's how the military taught him to treat people. he starts spouting off about being a marine for 16 years, ad that somehow makes him a better person. he says if I haven't served I don't have a right to speak. he asked me if I've risked my life; I told him I value my life, don't risk it for stupid reasons. He said I should support the war; I said I don't support a war for oil. I think I must have broken his brain at this point because he just screamed more obscenities and stormed off the bus. Another crazy piece of brainless cannon fodder.
It's a good thing those kind of guys become soldiers, that way they have a greater chance of being killed.
Hrmm. The marine sounds like a douche.. but.. no one needs to hear another random tell you what you can and can't say to your mates on the phone.
Truth be told I was scared, but I had pepper spray and figured 1) we were on a public bus and 2) he lays a hand on me, I have a lawsuit on my hands and he's dishonorably discharged. I can't stand bullying, and I speak my mind.
This is why I dislike military people. They are like modern day Nazis... some of them. Others are just brainwashed but well meaning dupes. It is fucking scary to hear his opinion of civilians, though, especially if that opinion is shared by many others in the military who have little minds of their own and know only how to follow government orders. Scary. Scary. Scary. Like war criminal Henry Kissinger said in his own autobiography: "Military men are nothing but dumb, stupid animals to be used as pawns for foreign policy." If only some of these militant macho men knew what their "superiors" thought of them... perhaps they wouldn't be so arrogant.
I'm sure if I'd have stayed in I'd be sitting in my own office feeling like I'm better than everybody. It's an unfortunate side effect of the army teaching that you're better than everyone. I was an arrogant prick when I got out until life humbled me.
This is why everyone needs to serve a year or so in some type of government service. Peace Corp, military, medical something or other.....
Nobody should be forced to put in service to anything. If it's worth it to the others, let them do it. The way I figure it, this guy hated civilians because they are trained to hate civilians. It'll make it easier to oppress us later on.
i doubt that they are trained to hate civilians. i can only speak to the navy side of things though. the members of our military are overworked, and are asked to do far more than they ought to have to. they do not have easy access to mental health services, because of the stigma that comes with it. they are jaded. he was unlikely on steroids, as random UAs are common, and i do not doubt that they test for them. if you could tell he was a marine, i assume that he was in uniform? i would have called his betters. demanded his name and rank and told him that he was out of order. a uniformed member of the military is representative of the military, and our nation. therefore, as a representative, he implied to you that the Marines do not support the Commander in Chief conduct unbecoming of a military member, as well as 917. ART. 117. PROVOKING SPEECHES OR GESTURES Any person subject to this chapter who uses provoking or reproachful words or gestures towards any other person subject to this chapter shall be punished as a court-martial may direct. i think a year of "community service" would be great for citizens. dig holes, build roads and schools... lots of shit they could do and gain the knowledge of what it is like to work for the collective. its not a poison experience. hell, wouldnt even have to make it mandatory, just make it a tax credit for services to the nation.
You speak as if human beings have all the rights in the world, but that's not true, not even close. I really think it's awful the way American civilians carry on about their servicemen. I feel bad for them, I really do. This world has been fashioned from wars, from military supremacy. Americans are always quick to flail about their patriotism but after reading these threads over the years, what a facade. You won't support a war over oil? How do you think your country was built? It was all oil lines and railroads after the Civil War. It's just disappointing to hear. Evey time I see a servicemen in a pub here I always make them feel welcome and share a beer or two and love hearing about their stories and adventures. It may not sound like sheer patriotism, but I'm proud of them, they've gone through a lot more than I ever will and I'm not even speaking of any fighting. You don't just sign up and get a gun and go to war and shoot women and children like a lot of you think. You gotta train your damn guts out to get that opportunity! It's just a shame, but then again, it's just Americans.
I can't understand how anyone can see the war for what it is, then join the military. It kind of seems to me they are volunteering to be cannon fodder; they are volunteering their lives, risking their lives (not an intelligent decision in my opinion), they are signing up to be later abandoned by the very military that they willingly signed up for.
