I was interested in her long before her "proud of her country for the first time" remark that made so much news. First Lady potentials have always intrigued me. I KNEW Hillary was going to climb further than most of the country club gals who decorate the Whitehouse. I knew Kerry never had a chance when I realized nobody wanted that arrogant Ketchup Queen as First Lady. The only thing I'll say about Michelle so far is that she needs to listen to her husband a LOT more and gain his command of language and self control. But as I was scanning for other opinions I came upon this little gem in the Asia Times (a GREAT political paper with ZERO PC filtering). I warn you though, it's a long, tough read. http://www.atimes.com/atimes/Front_Page/JC04Aa01.html As for Obama, I don't think he's going to pull it off. I won't blame Michelle (entirely), but this would be a crucial time for her to do PR stuff that doesn't involve her jaws. Charles Farley
I forget who said it, but I agreed with the commenter who snapped back with a sarcastic "Yeah, how could a black woman in America not feel the pride?" You're right that it matters, whether it should or not. But there isn't anything that anyone can say that's safe from attack by rightwing nuttery. They'll invert the facts, the logical connections, or if they have to, will simply misquote the assertion itself. Logic? Reason? Are you crazy, this is the "post-911 era," and so pre-911 constructs like logic and morality can simply be discarded at will at any point in any discussion. Like when Kerry asserted that the Iraq War could end up costing "hundreds of billions." At the moment he said that, total costs of the war had already exceeded two hundred billion dollars. The Bush camp responded that it was irresponsible of him to even suggest the possibility that it could ever hit those numbers. He was made out to be unpatriotic for even saying it, even by generally decent news sources like NPR. Sometimes I think that there really is no shortage of great political leadership in this country. But no one can make it through the republican slime machine without coming out permanently damaged in the public eye. And they've not even started on Obama.
You just stole the words from my mouth. That's all right, though, because the average person dumb enough to vote doesn't even know what the CFR is, nor do they care.
It is a good thing to get past the fluff and confection to see the nuts and bolts of a person. Kudos to The Asia Times. Wondering if American media has the stones to do this kind of investgative reporting or will they by exclusively covering Natalie Holloway and the baby seal hunt? Another story on Valerie Plame? I am wondering if my tax dollars helped pay for Michelles education and what type of finish these institutions put on Mrs. Obama? I always thought that Theresa Kerry showed intelligence and spirit, trouble was that her husband was obviously in her shadow and Terri wore the pants in the family. Perhaps it is Michelle who brings Barrak to that crazy church of thiers. It wouldn't be the first time a wife dragged her husband to sunday service. Plenty of husbands catch a little shut eye in church. What are the mechanics of that relationship with Pastor Wright? Michelle may be the key. Does Obama have the discernment to put real space between himself and those concepts spoken by Mr. Wright?
What leads you to think she dragged him to church???? Now you are just making up stories.. He stayed at that church for years, he listened to Rev. Wright preach every week, and if he didn't like what Rev Wright was saying, then he would have walked out immediately and never returned, but he didn't. He stayed for years. What does that say about Obama. First, it says that he had no problem with what Rev. Wright preached until the shit hit the fan a couple of weeks ago. Second, it says that, to a degree, Obama believes in some of the same things as Rev. Write- otherwise, he would have left! Now, Obama denies everything connected to Rev Write, and he denounces everything Rev Wright is saying. But actions speak a lot louder than words. And we know his actions. So there. Lets just be honest with each other and conclude that Obama got caught with his pants down. Its time to cut the rhetoric and start telling the truth.
