    Peace & Rock'n'Roll to all!!!
    Hey!
I got a common question coming to my mind every day - can there still be great bands now? Or is that all far away in the past? What ya people think?!!!

of course there are. Its not just the same thing. Music evolves.
Now, I do say ya have to get away from the pop genres.

    what do you like?
(I for one loathe the Panty Terrorists/ Pantera bad people. They were the meanest peole back at Joe's Garage. Hey they couldn't get a gig outside of Fort Worth, Texas for gads sake.)
I can tell you what has been in rotation in my CD player/ concert going, if that'll help.
    Tha Muse Meant
Donna the Buffalo (odd, but I'll go again)
    KanNal (duh)
    Hamsa Lila
    Steve Kimock
    Garaj Mahal
    Fareed Haque Group
Jemimah Puddleduck (led by Ratdog's lead guitarist, Mark Karan)
    Love Scene Clear (yummmm...new one)
Signal Path (edging into techno. I like these folks much more than Sound Tribe Sector Nine)
    Ellis Paul
    Don Conoscenti
    Joel Raphael
Alejandro Escovedo (his sis is Shelia E)
    many more...

Personally I prefer the old bands. I mean who can beat The Doors, Hendrix and The Beatles?

There is good modern music out there. But there is alot of shit in it's way too. My band are great, and we are modern. Floyd Soul & The Wandering Wolf we are called :D

I think both the past and present have good music, you just have to look in different places. In my opinion, the past's popular music definitely beats today's popular music (I mean... Avril... Good Charlotte... come on). However there are still some good bands today, you just have to look a little harder, for whatever reason. As far as bands today go, I am rather partial to Fischerspooner, Ladytron, Rammstein, System of a Down, Sonata Arctica, Muse... etc....

People who say that are too lazy to get out and find live, perking music.
With the Net, there is no excuse, including age. BnP for some music if they are taper friendly.
Lots of young uns were into Yonder in the early days. Festivals have no age limits and lots of bands will do al ages if the base is there.

That's a nice place to find independent and smaller artists and find more local musicians. I'm even on there...

But yeah, there really isn't a hard way to find live music. I like small venues, most of the time. Woo... Trey Anastasio is playing at the Landmark in Richmond, Va... Dark Star Orchestra playing at the Norva. There's a lot of small bands out there and singer/songwriters and psychedelic/jam bands out there that not a whole lot of people have heard of much.

i'm always tryin' to catch todays music (i must)... but 60's & 70's have a different place for me...as i said if there is "some" good idea and include "some" feeling with spirit it's not important the period.

I hate how people throw the word pop around like it's a sin to play pop. The Killers are an exceelent band and they are as pop as you can get. I would venture to say that bands are as good today if not better than they were 30 years. Music today is really alot more progressive and vast than it was then and there are a ton of thigns that you can do now that you couldn't back in the day.

Yeah... like get away with shitty punk bands versus some others like the clash or the ramones. Or shitty pop like the simpsons versus Brian Eno.
