all the other months have an R in their name.

While not perfectly matched up, the 'No R' months are swimming pool season for most as well as lawn activity and grilling.

    R months are mainly indoors.

September violates this where I live (Upstate NY) as it can be quite warm until the 3rd week of September and usually the pool is not ready to swim in until late May but in general the R/ no R division works pretty well.

To me No R means vacation on Cape Cod, grilling steaks, hot dogs, hamburgers in the backyard, drinking Pilseners and Hefeweiszen beers, swimming, laying in the Sun and in the evening watching baseball with more beer or the occasional Martini.

The R months are about Thanksgiving, Christmas, football, hockey, making Chili, Roast beef, Spaghetti & Meatballs, Indian Food, Tex-Mex enchiladas, etc. home made pies and drinking dark beers like Stouts, Porters, Belgian beers, etc. and sipping Scotch in the evenings.

so, for me the pool kind of splits the year in two and means more than Fall/ Winter/ Spring. I open the pool on the Friday of Memorial Day weekend and close it the 3rd or 4th Saturday in September. This year the Saturday after the pool is closed I will begin soaking the dark fruits for the Christmas fruitcake in Rum or Sherry then make a big batch of Chili.

Don't eat oysters unless there's an R in the month

It even works in French, except then you've gotta call in an "air" (remember the Lavendar Hill Mob???)

    Hello,

that was what first came to my mind reading the thread's title ;).

Thinking about it the best months are that with an r in their name. In most of that months you see something happen, it's transition time in nature: spring, autumn. Remember the long and hot summers of your childhood? They got boring after some time, didn't they.

    Regards

I have really come to love the Seasons and weather here in Upstate NY.

I grew up in Wisconsin where the Summers are hotter and the winters much colder.

Summer is awesome because I have a swimming pool and Central Air and love baseball, beer and grilling.

Fall is a time to enjoy family, food and football.

Christmas is the happiest time of the year.

Winter is nice when the ground is covered in snow. I am grateful that the cold keeps us from having too many bugs or snakes.

Spring seems like rebirth when it arrives.

I love the Seasons and wouldn't want to live anywhere it was warm all the time.

    It's all great.

    Hello,

have you ever fired up the grill in winter time? Nothing like having a good fire going with some meat on the spit while it's -10 degree celsius ;). Bonus points if it's snowing.

    Regards

You can't get good oysters in a month that does not have an R in it.
