Sooo, I've been running in the morning 3-5 times a week. Nothing too intense, I'll run for 2 minutes, walk for 1, run for 3, walk for 2, just stuff like that for probably 30-40 minutes. And my question is: should I be eating before I run? Right now, I just get up, stretch, run, THEN eat breakfast etc... Some people I've talked to say that running right after fasting (sleeping, so by the time I run it's been almost 10 hours since I last ate) is really bad for your body. I haven't been feeling any bad effects of this, other then being a little dizzy until I eat breakfast. Any advice/ wisdom would be much appreciated

no, you're fine. if you want something quick to eat, then have something - if you don't, you don't have to.

if you're feeling dizzy, maybe add in something to eat, something with a good amount of protein.

An egg in the morning is supposed to really jump start your metabolism.

Thank you all for the the advice. I decided that for me, its best not eat before I run. I feel fine after, just a little dizzy if I over heat, but I tried eating a banana before running a few times in the past couple weeks and everytime I ended up throwing up on someones front lawn... haha. Awesome!

Another question I have is itchiness. The past few morning, I've gotten EXTREMELY itchy while running on my hands, arms, legs and torso. It's not a "oh i'm really sweay" itch, it's a "HOLY GOD, I WANT TO RIP MY SKIN OFF" itch. Could this be from what I'm eating? Or the weather? Or what? It's so annoying and I remain itchy for an hour or so after running, even after a shower....

I've been swimming every morning before work for years, 'gives me that jump start that gets me going. I used to run, but I found it hurt my joints and my muscles would get tight, 'course I'm an old man. Now I only run in the afternoon or evening.

I don't eat in the morning prior to the workout, but I do eat within an hour after, it's important to replenish those calories, and make sure your hydrated, coffee doesn't help with that.

So about the itchiness, one person told me it's because I was dehydrated. Someone else said it's called a "dry sweat" and that it's capilaries opening and my acupuncturist told me it's my qi getting released because the time I run is "spleen time" and mines all out of whack and when you exercize and expel energy, you can get itchy....

Hahaha, I dont know what to do, I'm going to try evening running instead?
Any other opinions I would appreciate!!!

My friend drinks some water after waking up, does his stretches, then runs... after he gets home and showers, he'll eat breakfast.
Not too much water, don't fill up, or you'll get cramps.

    Exercise is for lazy people.

I bike 2 miles down to the post office most mornings. Along the bay, complete with jaw dropping scenary the whole time. Then two miles back.

Just as a matter of fact.

If I go to town, that's another 10 miles easy.

Fruit juice to wake me up. Chocolate milk and a toasted english muffin with cheese to fuel the morning.

    Most days.

The idea is to stay busy. If you're tied to a desk for hours, you have much work to do.

I've structured my life in such a way that it flows with periods of rest and action. When you come to understand the natural timing of these events, you can plan your day. Life flows with purpose.

    Right on.

I only go to the gym in the mornings to swim for 20 minutes, nothing else. I used to work out at the gym till I got tired of the boredom and the BS of the meat market. Now the woods are my gym. Trail running, mountain biking, back country skiing, kayaking, yard work, it's a lot more fun.

The weather here is just about perfect. Highs around 70. Lows at night about 50. Light breeze off the great northern Pacific ocean.

A year round air conditioner for us along the coast.

Biking is easy this time of year.
