The poll was initially a "most important rock figure" vote, but since I put most of the nominee to the later ones emerged during the counterculture era, I changed the title of poll and edited this post. I apologize for previous mistake. If you want to vote in an election of the most early rock 'n' roll musician, please go to another poll "founding father election". Thank you!
Buddy Holly... Why are Janis, Hendrix, Garcia, Morrison, Zep, and Jagger (one could also make an argument that Dylan or Lennon don't belong either) even on that list...At least put "The Rolling Stones" or "The Beatles" and not just Jagger or Lennon, cause that is a little short-sighted Where is the Chuck Berry, Roy Orbison, Jerry Lee Lewis etc...
their are so many rock greats and so many rock tastes. it's really hard to decide which one is most important. I always here elvis was 'the beginning', therefore he should be the most important, but i don't like him so I would never choose him. and people like the beatles, jimi hendrix, the stones, janis joplin aren't really early nut more like the second or even third wave. this topic is a really good idea, but i think it should be rebuilt with other names
Chuck Berry, Roy Orbison, Jerry Lee Lewis may be important to the beginning, but their music still did not form the mature genre of "rock 'n' roll), these folks live in the same time with Elvis, while Elvis contributed a lot more than them. The second or third wave you said, the British Invasion and the Psychedelic ones, were the real people who were "building up", and "proliferate" rock 'n' roll. Also I wanted to put way more people, include Berry, Orbison, Lewis, and even Haley, but the limit was 10, so i had to sacrifice some of them, maybe we can do another vote on "the founding fathers of rock 'n' role", which will be Elvis, Haley, Lewis, Orbison, Berry, Roy Brown, and Bo Diddley.
Another thing was I didn't want to put Jimi Hendrix down as a musician, I did it mainly b/c he was the main technician who innovated electric guitar.
The beatles, they were the band that turned more beats on to rock then the others, although the folk movment did have it's share of converts.
Dylan,,,, He wrote all the best stuff that everyone else sang anyways,,, His influence spanned across all the genres.. And definetly Orbison,, Little Richard and The big Bopper,,,,,
