MSN made me download the latest version 7. This software blocks MP3s people send you by file transfer and there is no way to switch the file blocking off or change its settings. Not sure if this only affects people with XP+SP2 which is what I have or whether it affects everyone using MSN 7. Tried going back to version 6 but it won't let you log in anymore unless you use the current version. This is really crappy. There is a patch which supposedly disables the file share blocking in MSN7 but I tried that and it doesn't work. How crap is that?
blah seriously? I'm still on the old one.. msn 6.2sth... trying to delay any possible updates .. but when I hear that mp3 sharing is disabled.. great.. blah...
I have had lots of grief with msn 7 too, and had to reinstall it at least 3 times. It won't let me log on without upgrading, even after I upgrade, it is like a lotto. Sometimes I get lucky and can log on, but usually not. I am gonna try to d/l an mp3 now that I heard that about the file transfers. Thanks
I didnt like msn 7 and it freezes my older computer, but have you checked your firewall settings (if you have a firewall) ?
Funny this is mentioned. I am just now using msn for the first time in about a month. I finally was able to upgrade to 7 today,it wouldn't upgrade before now and I couldn't use the old version either. I won't be surprised when it messes up again.
Did you try http://mess.be/ I hate to advocate for that site...it's supposed to be really good but it screwed up my messenger once....of course, that could have been my fault.
Try Trillian...if that doesn't work, there maybe a third-party crack or fix somewhere out there that would negate the blocking of MP3's. Honestly, though, I highly recommend steering clear of file-sharing over IM networks like AIM/MSN/ICQ, as these programs can leave ports open for hackers; I learned this lesson the hard way...
Change you TCP and listening ports to extreme randdom numbers somewhere between 12,000 and 40,000 and change them every week or so, then you wont' have to worry about hackers or people seeing what you are downloading or uploading.
Maybe you've never heard of something called a port scanner, and considering the technology available to worm kiddies these days, 40,000 seperate port scans over a couple of hours wouldn't be shit if it means controlling ANY computer with a broadband connection.
