He's been invited to live in Saudi Arabia along with Ben Ali from Tunisia, home to former muslim dictators.

This was the PERFECT revolution. It was peaceful on the part of those demonstrating for change. Most of the violence came from or was instigated on the part of the Egyptian government. So now you know who creates violent protests, not the people, but the gov't to discredit the people and justify even more extreme crackdowns and violence.

If the Egyptians were able to do it, ANY COUNTRY can do it! It just takes everyone to agree on ONE THING and to go out and demand it. Find the point everyone can agree upon, and make that the primary demand as the Egyptians did, and don't back down.

I was amazed at how many of the young Egyptians down in Tahrir square were willing to DIE to achieve this. Turns out it wasn't necessary. It shouldn't be if the gov't is of the people and by the people and for the people... But it seems few gov't are anymore...

  8. Just found out! Unbelievable after his "won't step down" declaration yesterday.

This is looking more and more like a military coup. Turns out the speaker of the Parliament was supposed to take over or the Vice President, but apparently that wasn't suitable to the military brass. So this was not a "legal" transfer of power.

Seems to be that, though the chief justice of the supreme court I guess is going to rule in conjunction with the military.

Well, tonight we're gonna party like it's 1999.

Hopefully any military leaders who are intent on maintaining the status quo are watching the same images that I am watching right now and are wetting their pants.

The parliament is corrupt as hell and just another extension of the NDP, power was given the the military because it's the only branch of government the protesters would trust with the power.

The Egyptian military brass is an elite class who are very rich and live a luxury lifestyle. This is because Mubarak, his family and the military all have business investments.

Did you know that Mubarak, et al, get 5% to 20% of all International business transactions? So if you want to do biz in Egypt you must PAY a huge, ongoing commission to Mubarak. Previously I posted up a British document showing $4.7 Billion going into Mubarak's personal account in exchange for business opportunities for UK corporations.

So no wonder Wall Street is happy! More profits for all the multinationals who do biz in Egypt (they hope). But I have a feeling the military will want its usual cut too, so don't count on it.

Ironically, Mubarak once pledged to end such corruption and did indict former members of Sadat's inner circle for doing exactly what he has done for the past 20 years (for the first 10 he lived up to his pledges, more or less).

It looks like the NDP's time may be over. The chairman (or whatever he's called) just resigned and said there should be new parties in Egypt now. That party is totally discredited now. Why? Cause it was the NDP that urged its members to go fight the protesters in Tahrir square. And we know how that turned out... So they have no credibility anymore with the Egyptian people.

UPDATE: 2/11: Swiss Freeze Mubarak's Bank Accounts!

Al Ahram reports that a former senior Egyptian intelligence official told the newspaper that "both of last night's addresses by Mubarak and Suleiman were in defiance of the armed forces."

So apparently it was a military coup that forced him from power.
