Ok, I'm sure some of you hear questions like this all the time but just for fun I started asking people the following question? -Would you be happier to live in a little room with only one window looking into the outside, yet would be able to have anything you desired withing the limits of that one room. You would not be able to leave (ever) but people would be able to come visit you. Or, would you rather live outside in the "real" world and be able to mingle with others. The only catch is that you would start with absolutly nothing, you would have to build your own shelter, hunt for your own food and make your own clothing. I can already guess what most people on this site would choose but if you don't mind, do ask other people you know and post your results. Of the people I asked so far, 9 people would chose the room, 9 would chose the outdoors and 4 or 5 were too hesitant.
It sounds nice at first glance to have 'anything you want', but only for a millisecond... I crave adventure and thrive on travel and independance. I could not stay in the same town for veyr long let alone one room for my whole life. And wouldnt we progress deeply in ourselves if we were given the opportunity to start from scratch and build our lives? yeah, i chooose outside.
You'll never learn enlightenment that way. Working, exploring, creating, sharing ideas is what keeps one humble.

I'd take the little room but I'd bend the rules and bring in some cool Sci-Fi stuff (I get anything I want, Right? You never said it has to be real!), and I'd the outside in. Imagine having everything... thats what the room could provide. If you change the rules because I'm being a smart ass I choose to be outside, because I'd go fricking insane inside a little room.
my initial reaction is that I'd rather be outside. but.... if by "anything you wanted" includes things that don't exist or don't yet exist... If I could be cured of an incurable disease by staying in that room and never experience pain or illness ever again.... If that room had a forest and big sunny spot for a garden inside... lots of sunlight... I just don't know. I really couldn't say which I would choose.
Obviously it's best to think as realistically as possible so forests and gardens might be pusing it a little. But say, if you had a disease you could easily ask for medicine while being in the room. But if you're outside, you'd either have to find someone who could make it for you, or find some plant, or make it yourself or die. It's your choice. I think I should have suggested: "Either a room with everything you want within a certain limit, or return to a prehistoric earth (minus the dinosaurs) and start out with absolutly nothing".
there's actually a book like that titled "touching spirit bear" it's about a kid that has to live on a remote island in alaska for a year, he has to build his own shelter and sell his things for money to buy food and stuff, and he has to become one with nature, it's an alright book actually
