My ~18 month old peyote and a cutting from a 30 year old san pedro given to me by a kind acquaintance.
I think I'll be far too attached to them by the time they're ready to harvest to go through with it! :D

That peyote is adorable. I'd put the pedro in a bigger pot, though it's a lovely little devil too.

Graft that button onto your Pedro! Check Mycotopia for info on how. It'll be done in a year or 2 instead of 10.

Very nice! 36 is on to something re grafting, though I have no personal experience with that. I do know that cutting the tip off the big SP (assuming it is rooted) will yield 3-5 pups and thus markedly >yield. The cut part of the tip can then be dried and rooted ...

    nice peyote. looks very healthy.

i would only graft a lophophora to an old San Pedro/Peruvianus/Bridgesii stock. the older it is the faster your graft will grow.

You can do that, but I'm talking about grafting the lophophora onto the trichocereus to make the loph grow faster.

I don't know much about cacti, but that's news to me. Got a source for it? Not that I think you're lying, but sources are nice.

i think i read it somewhere on the lophophora blog or the shroomery. i forget which one.

either way choosing a well-established (good roots) and vigorous stock is in your best interest if you want your graft to take off. it makes sense that a younger, less established cutting would not have the root system and vascular development to support rapid growth for the scion.

Cheers for the compliments and advice guys.

I think I'm gonna leave them seperate though, I'm not really that bothered about speeding up the growing process, they're more like pets to me than a means to a trip. Plus I'd be gutted if something went wrong and I ruined one or both of my cacti.

Does anyone know how long peyotes usually take to flower? I was told it can vary from 2-5 years.

I'll dig this thread up in 6 months or so for an update, haha.

Thats one fat san pedro, it makes mine look damn anorexic! With the peyote did you grow that from a seed and it was that size in 18 months?

Yeah, the SP's quite fat, haha. Like I said, it's a cutting from a thirty year old cactus.
Nah, I bought the peyote at twelve months old and I've had it for six months. I can't wait for it to start flowering.

Thanks. Yeah, you do grow quite fond of 'em.

Proper flowers man, they reach maturity and start to flower during summer at anywhere between two and five years, so it could be another six months or it could be another four and a half years.

    Here's a flowering peyote...

Haha, maybe your dad was a secret psychonaut.

They can potentially live for hundreds of years and get pretty damn big.
Here's a pic of a few bigger ones...

And with regards to my dad he is a biker and has been since he left school, he says he enjoyed smoking hash, but often warned me about lsd and shrooms as i grew up at the bike rally's .. He's allways been fine about hash / weed and ive been able to have a toke comfortably with him since i was 16.

Anyways nice one on the cacti, they are truly awesome, and you will have to post when it flowers ..

Yeah, I will do. It won't be til next summer at the earliest though.

My own eyes or someone else's? I think I need my eyes more than the cacti do.
