no shit, my daughter made team today. it's still twice a week, but it's 3 hours. she's been dying to get on the team so she can get back to her old coach, elizabeth and some of her older friends. we're gonna see whether or not it's too much of her. she JUST turned 6, so it might be a bit more than she can do right now. but her friend will be joining her. she won't be the only one from her pre-team class moving up, just the smallest. but the kids and coaches love her to pieces and i LOVE her coach. she's such a little BADASS. she's going to be so excited. she's been watching the older girls do all kinds of cool stuff and she wants to try it. so we'll see how it goes. either way is cool with them. they've been having to adjust her training anyway, and the coach she has now doesn't mind. but they wanted her to have more time with the older, more experienced girls because every time she's around the more experienced girls she does better. i just can't believe it. but i knew when i saw her do three back handsprings it was time. i hope she takes to it and we don't have to move her back down. but she is only 6. it's not like they're going to be trotting her out for competition right away, either. but she gets to do more fun stuff now.
That's awesome. Congratulations on that. I can't wait til we're able to get the boys into sports or boyscouts or something.
yeah, gymnastics. age 6 is the earliest age you can be to be in level 4. i'm going to have to pay a little bit more per month, but since i already paid a year in advance, it's a small about. i'l lhave to get her some good snacks to eat, too. they take a short break to refuel the little ones.
hah, that's awesome. really good for a kid to have a sport they like, not common enough these days I think. glad my kid brother plays footie
kai love track in PE, too. damned good thing. she's nagging me to put her in all these different sports and stuff, but i'm a big big believer in boredom. i think the reason she's so advanced in school is because she's had to learn to entertain herself. but it was wierd seeing her out there. i guess she was the only one invited to team. her friends in her pre-team class were wondering why she was with the big kids. and they are big. she only comes up to the shoulder of the smallest girl on the team. some of the girls out there are taller than me. but they're treating her really well. the coaches love her anyway, but i was worried about the kids. but no, happy kids are nice kids. the coaches and the owner of the club sat and watched her for a bit, too, to make sure she's be okay. i'm pretty comfortable right now. she's still over there. joey gets outta hand and i have to bring her home. i really wanted to stay and watch her for a while. i'll be able to once dave gets home and we go together.
That's so awesome! Congrats! Next year I'm officially enrolling the twins in squiggie football/cheerleading. They're sooo excited and wish they could do it right now! But they don't meet the age requirements. So...wait we must. I'm hoping I might be able to get back into coaching cheerleading as well, that would be fun! My oldest son has no interest whatsoever in sports. I thought for a while he was interested in karate, but then he changed his mind when I wanted to sign him up. Then it was playing the drums, but then he decided against that. Then it was skateboarding, and no, he was afraid he's going to get really hurt, break something. *sighs* That's the reason he won't play sports, he's afraid of getting hurt. Oh, he and I play baseball, soccer, football, basketball, and frisbee all of the time outside in our yard and he enjoys it, but he feels safe with me, he's nervous about doing the team thing with violent kids. *laughs* Funny how different my kids are. The twins, despite being younger, are fearless. My oldest is a scaredy cat. I blame myself. I was always way too overprotective with him as a baby/toddler, now I think it's haunting me.
i see all these kids who are constantly being shuttled from one place to another. it looks awful to me. remember laying on your back in the grass and staring at the sky because there was nothing else to do? heaven. i think over the summer, though, that i'll put kai back in dance. she really gets a kick out of it. and swimming, of course. she's in school from 8:00 to 3:30, then has gym from 4-7. and there's nothing that pisses me off more than homework. i told her teacher that no kindergartener in school for a full day should ever have homework. when do they get to play?
both my girls are utterly fearless. i'm so happy. mainly because i'm hyper cautious lady. joey is rearin' to go in, too. i think she's ready, but we don't have the money to put her in the class. she's been practicing with kai for ages, though. she's already got some awesome skills.
She sounds exactly like I was when I was in gymnastics as a kid. Only I ended up quitting because they said I was too young to move to the next level, but I was bored to death of doing what I was doing, too easy for me, haha! congratulations to your daughter!
her coach adores her. she's so excited to get kai back in her class. and the coaches all made a point of coming out and talking to me about what she was doing and what progress she was making. thank god. i swear, i'd usually have to track them down.
