I don't know what the hell I did, although I do exercise regularly at the gym, but my upper right leg is messed up (like the top part). I can't put any pressure on it. It hurts in almost every range of motion and going up and down the stairs is killer. This started happened yesterday around mid-day, and I had been to the gym the day before that. How can I tell if I've pulled the muscle or something? Is there any way I can find out what has happened to my leg without waiting around for a doctor? What should I do? Thanks.
It's most probably a muscle. Try to stay off it, don't exercise, and hope to hell it goes away. If the pain is still there after 3 days go to the doctor. Try taking motrin and alternating hot and cold packs. I'm almost positive that if you went to a doctor now they'd tell you the same damn thing. I've been in health care business for 5 years. i've got a clue what I'm talking about.
I'm sure it's a pulled muscle. Make sure you stretch it out really good everyday. You can stretch it out by grabbing your foot behind you and pull it toward your back. If you don't feel a good stretch lean your body forward a bit until you do. Also...DO NOT PUT COLD ON IT! Cold will tighten the muscle up more! Twenty minutes of a hot pad, stretching, and resting it will help. p.s. only use cold if you have a sprain...cold keeps swelling down.
Nisha -- Does your high school have an athletic trainer who helps injured high school athletes? I suggest that you go to him or her. You'll get knowledgeable, competent help, for free. Also, the gym at which you work out might have a therapist or trainer on staff who can help you for free or for a small fee. (The people here at hipforums are no doubt giving you good, detailed advice. Also, until you can find someone to help you, try some crutches so that you can keep weight off your leg.) Even though you are hurting now, the human body has an amazing ability to heal over time. I wish you the best. Keep us posted. Take care.
Yeah, ice only works in the immediate phases of an injury when there is swelling. Rest it, heat it, and stretch it, and you should be ok.
thanks everyone. i think it was a pulled muscle. it's gone now. i'm going to be seeing alot of those i guess now that i'm in rugby.
