The day before yesterday I jammed to the Beach Boys and Wu-Tang Clan.

Yesterday I listened to Captain Beefheart and David Bowie.

Today I am listening to Beck, Massive Attack, and White Zombie.

Does anybody else have stranger music habits than me?

i dont know much about bach and similar stuff, but i do like a lot of it, and bach's cello suite no. 1 has long been what i've considered to be one of the most phenomenally beautiful pieces of music i've EVER heard in my life....i'm a sucker for cellos, though.

if you haven't heard it before relayer, you should check it out. my favorite version i've heard is yoyo ma doing it.....if nothing else, i'm sure you can find him playing the prelude for free online somewhere. you should check it out if you can

I like classical music, but bach, not so much...

What about rachmaninov, chopin, dvorak, brahms, or debussy? I like them better than bach because the music to me is deeper and more soulful.

Here are some more weird bands I like:
    The Carpenters
    Enya
    Venus Hum
    The soundtrack from "Lexx"
    Enigma
    Vast

Im sure I've heard it, I have about half of Bach's viola, cello, and lute scores burned into my memory on classical guitar  I live for the dudes music! But I dont know, cello suite no. 1? Im a check it this instant. I'll pm you a youtube of my favorite Bach peice on guitar in a min. if you want to see it!

And Maria, rachmaninov is the man like that, but Im not as crazy about piano scores as I am the other stringed instruments, ONLY because I cant play piano other than basic blues and weak jazz improvisations.
But Bach, yea, he's mathy. But almost all of his music was inspired by his love for God, and very few songs of his are mellow or dark. Most of them are upbeat and happy but certain songs are just a touch of heaven to me.

And of you guys like Segovia or Tarrega? Spanish classical? I found a video of a dude playing a Tarrega peice and its pretty damn close to perfect. I only have Segovia on audio playing it though. Im actually learning this one right now, I basically have the whole song down to memory but I suffer with tremolo (3 fingers doing the ringing sound and the thumb picking out the major notes) Hope you guys like it!

Nesta, here is the Bach performance by John Williams. Breath taking lol I can only play about 3 minutes worth and I lose my compusre. Its hard to teach yourself Bach when you cant read music
Edit - Ok I just watched it and cried like a baby haha. @ 3:01 the chord progression is nothing short of genius talking to God. Maria how can you hate on Bach?!?!?! haha j/k

    I enjoy Bach, Chopin, Rachmaninoff.

I also like The Album Leaf, Massive Attack, Tortoise.

Other times Iron and Wine, Owen, Dave Matthews, John Mayer, The Shins.

Then The Wombats, The Kooks, Arctic Monkeys.

Maybe some Underoath, Drop Dead Gorgeous, Fall of Troy, I Killed the Prom Queen, Job For a Cowboy.

Metallica, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix.

Edith Piaf, Glenn Miller, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly.

Nice taste on Massive Attack =)

I guess I hate on him because I like music that is more in the minor key than the major key... but not all the time.

I grew up on bach, maybe that's why I don't like him. I might just be bored with him. However, his music for guitar better than for piano, at least IMO. I got to see John Williams in concert once, by the way!

Well how lucky can a girl be for Christ's sake. A LIVE John Williams performance? pppfff I would have died.
Too bad Segovia died before I could ever see him play. And yea the guitar arrangements are WAY better than the organ scores.
Do you like any of the Spanish composers though? What about Albeniz?

True, true. My old roomate used to bang out Chopin when we would smoke and trip together. And I would improvise to it with the classical guitar. Fun days while they laster!

Lots of good bands mentioned in this thread.

Wu Tang is the only rap I actually like.

...anyhow... there's no excuse for listening to the Beach Boys, unless you were listening to Pet Sounds. Pet Sounds is extra awesome.

Oh, and Bach is completely dull compared to Chopin.

    It's all about Stravinsky.

It was kind of a rare thing. He hardly ever does performances anymore. It was earlier this year, and he was playing duets with another guitar player, John something (my memory is terrible for someone so young). The other guy was awesome, he had way more energy than Williams. (But they were both good. [IMG])
I think they played a lot of spanish guitar but I can't remember the songs. Classical guitar isn't my favorite but I do have a lot of respect for it.
I wish you could have gone.

Me too Maria I love the guy :)
And yea Williams is way into spanish classical and flemenco. Pace de Lucia is another amazing player. I love all of them really, anyone who knows how to put the emotion behind the notes is wonderful in my eyes. I mean ears
