my six year old HATES hugging

seriously. it's bizarre. every time someone hugs her, she just stands there, uncomfortble, with her arms at her sides until it's over. it's a little strange. she CAN'T STAND hugging her baby sister.

but we've never had a lack of affection in the house. she loves when her sister cuddles with her in bed at night, stuff like that. she's always in one of our laps, giving affection, in constant contact. i don't know what the deal is.

 

Don't worry, it just a phase.

 

Not to totally overreact, but I'm sure you know that's one of the classic symptoms of autism, even high-functioning autism. Does she display any other autistic tendencies?

 

no. she really doesn't. i'd looked into it before because she was a late speaker and such. i think she gets hugged quite a lot. the other kids freaking love her. i think she may have a little bit of shyness.

 

Do you see anything else wrong ??? You said she was a late talker?? Walker as well? etc??

Reason i ask is because
i was a VERY VERY late walker and talker and my parents were very worried so they took me to the doctors just to find out that i had encountered Cerebral Palsy. At age 3 i started walking and i am not exactly sure what age i started talking but i needed speech therapy for 9 years. I had a brain tumor on the L side of my hemisphere of my brain and it went from there.

I'm not saying by any means your lil munchkin is anything like what i have/had, what i'm saying is if you see anything in the next few weeks or month just give a call to your dr. How about changing the diet is her attention okay?

her attention span is normal, her walking age was pretty early. her health is perfect. she's just always hated hugging. she gives kisses every morning and night, cuddles, but gets overwhelmed by hugging.

 

has it always been that way or is it relativity new ?

 

I tell you what, my sister is like Mrs. Mental Health and has been for like 35+ years.
I'll bounce it off her and see what she says..it will be awhile till I can get back to you on it.
She's on her way over now and we will be running a few errands

Some people dont enjoy human contact. I, for one, am disgusted by the prospect of having some heathens arms wrapped around me for even a nanosecond.

 

So, I take it you're one of those parents who go overboard about every little thing? Hey maybe, just maybe, it's a phase considering kids go through millions of these....or the kid doesn't like hugs, that's completly normal lol.

When i was little my mom seriously used to pay me a quarter to hug her. I love my mom, i just hated hugging anyone.

 

It could just be the type of personality she has and there is nothing wrong with that. I'm not a big hugger and I am completely ok.

I didn't really like hugging that much when I was younger, it may not be anything.
