Naked---Except for Shoes

  1. Because its Philadelphia:
The city's first annual Philly Naked Bike Ride gets underway Sunday.

"Philly Naked Bike Ride is a bike-tivist event. Its aim is to protest fuel dependency and celebrate the power and individuality of the human body."

The organizer is Clifford Greer. How many naked bicyclists does he expect?

"There's no registration and riders can participate anonymously but right now we're on target to be notifying 2,000 individuals of the meeting place."

Greer says some people will probably wear some clothes -- and helmets, too:

"Sneakers -- you better wear shoes. That's really important."

There are pics and a video at http://www.philly.com/philly/news/local/20090907_Riders_hit_the_streets__some_of_them_naked.html and most people wore more than just shoes; seems like in spite of the name, it's mostly an underwear & swimsuit event. But indeed, pretty much everyone seems to be wearing shoes, I thought I glimpsed a few bare feet in the video but the only one I'm sure of is the long-haired person at the very very end of the video walking with his/her bike in hand.

It's sad how many people are afraid to touch the ground with their bare feet. Even here in the Netherlands where it isn't seen as such a bad thing, 99% of the people are convinced it's cold or painful or both. While -unlike too many store employees in the US- they don't mind when *someone else* goes barefoot, most folks won't ever dare try it themselves, they know they're tenderfooted and have no inclination whatsoever to change that.

I bike barefoot all the time. This is what I did to my bike - grip tape on the pedals.

  5. That's the whole point. People are afraid about their feet; just adapt, dammit. Or (WHOA!) go barefoot!

Even if you go to nudist resorts or camping sites, you will see most of the naked people run around in sandals, crogs etc (or, even worse, sandals and socks!). It just seems that a lot of people don't know what their feet are able to stand and to sense, and have lost their infantine reliance in their body. Sad.

I clicked this thinking it'd be about hot girls who fuck wearing nothing but stilettos. How wrong I was.

Anyway, (coming from a regular shoe wearer) I agree with pixy. People think the risk of injury from not wearing shoes is a million times worse than when you do. I can imagine biking without shoes would be uncomfortable if you're not used to it though. I've biked without shoes and it hurt my feet, but so does walking on a pebble beach, pavements that aren't stone slabs and so on. I'm a pussy. Some people just are.

It can take some time to get used to being barefoot, soles can be tender at first. I find that after a week of bare-footing, in the summer especially, my soles get tougher. I still get an injury now and then - black walnut shells suck - but the wonderful feeling of the different surfaces that shoes would normally block out is worth the trade off.

I ride my bike barefoot with the standard pedals, it's just a matter of getting used to it.
I've been a barefoot hiker for many years, and think nothing of walking ten or more miles at a time, so my feet are as hard as they are going to get.
I hope the coming winter isn't going to be a cold one, it took me a month to re-harden them after the last one...

Dude, I SAW you and took a picture just to prove that you really do wear your stiletto heels on the beach:

I guess this was before you removed your shorts and we can't see the lip gloss, as it's your backside, but love the heels, man. Tragically hip.

In a sauna before you sit down I always take flipflops as the floor can be very hot and burn your feet. It is a strange feeling to be nude and have something on your feet, mind you.
