need help buying a bong

starting with the background to all this, you can skip these first two paragraphs if you want to get straight to it:

so i found a bunch of cash lying around my room from various odd jobs i've done over the summer, and i noticed i had around $200+, not including a ton of money i had saved up in the bank from working over the past few years and stuff. i realized i hadn't bought anything just for fun, for myself, in a while. i decided i want to start saving up for a nice bong, since ive never owned a bong and i would much rather have one nice bong as opposed to a bunch of shitty cheap pieces, which is what ive kind of accumulated over the last year or two.

i probably wont actually buy it until next year, because right now i dont have any place to put a bong and i want to wait till im not living in the dorms anymore (although this might change, i havent given it much thought, i want to see what my living situation is like this year), i just dont want to buy an expensive bong and then have it taken away.

ANYWAY.
ive literally used one real bong in my life, and it was an illadelph, which i know is a high end brand. aside from this and roor, i dont know what brands are good or bad or anything. ive been looking around a bit, i think that roor might be a little too expensive for me, im not trying to go any higher than like $3-400.

right now the brands ive been looking at are ehle, biohazard, pure, weed star, and black label.
ive heard of g-spot as well and im going to look at those too.
ive looked up some stuff about the ones im already looking at, and im getting a ton of mixed opinions about everything.

i want something that is STURDY. what is the difference between 5mm and 7mm? obviously 7mm is thicker but how significant is that? should i really only be looking at 7mm or higher?

i also want something thats a pretty decent size, like 1.5' or higher.
oh and percs and ice catcher.

so what brands should i be looking at for around 3 or 400, 1.5'+, ice catcher, and percolator(s)?

Can't beat a good ol' glass one with a second chamber.

 

you could buy an expensive bong like that, WHICH IS A Luxury, or you could buy rolling papers at the gas station and use the money to buy weed...or something else not weed related...

if your interested in the whole water pipe concept, look into bubblers. they are effective, cheap(compared to bong) 50-100, and portable.

 

im not asking whether i should get a bong...

i already have a bubbler, i have money for weed, i have plenty of money to spend on a bong and thats what ive decided i want to buy....

 

you should invest in a brain first..

also, go local. local glass artists are starving cuz you want to buy similar quality bongs via mail order. go to your local head shop and ask about local glass blowers

 

so does someone want to actually answer anything i asked?

also i'll probably look around some headshops next time im in the city, my friend buys weed from some guy who owns this shop, so she could probably get me a discount there.

i just want to know if theres anything i should definitely avoid or look out for.

 

Just buy a glass bong like i said as if bongs are any different anyway

 

obviously they are different, ive heard different things about weed star and biohazard so i dont know if i should consider either of those, there are different types of bottoms and thickness and stuff.

and i dont know anything about pure either, that was the other brand i was looking at.

 

i recommend getting an acrylic with a slide. mines 19 inches tall, acrylic and has a slide i love it its basicslly indestructible...ive had roors and theyre sick but unless you have ur own place its kinda a hassle if you are worried about getting it taken away or somehsit but acrylics with carbs arent as w3rd..hope that helps somewhat

yeah, i'm SO annoying, asking a couple simple questions, that i would think most people on a weed forum who have experience using/owning bongs would probably be able to answer

 

A bong is a bong, your gonna get the same end result with all of em. No need to over think it...

I have never paid attention to brands or anything, I couldn't name 1 brand.
Most of my stuff is from local glass artists, but thats because I like to support the local businesses.
Buy it in person, where you can touch and hold it. Look for something thats nice and thick with a good weight to it. You can feel the difference when you hold em. I couldn't tell you how thick any of my pieces are, only that they are nice and heavy. Then just look for one with an ice pinch or what ever features you want.
I always love stuff with unique detailed artwork and lots of color to fill in, ya know stuff that really shows the skills of the artist.

 

you're over thinking the whole bong-buying process. just go to a head shop, and pick out a nice one. the owners will help you out, you don't need to spend $3-400 on a bong. i spent $40 bucks on my bong, and it's only about a foot and rather small... it gets the job done. although it does have a rubber-o ring, so if you're looking for glass on glass, that'll be more expensive... what are you looking for in that range? i don't think you covered that really.
