I know this isn't perfectly related to this forum, but I am looking for advice on where to go to get a back pack for travelling. You know, one of those huge ones that can fit two months worth of stuff required for travel. something that could fit 30-40 pounds. Any good websites? I am looking for a website that offers good customer support, cheap shipping and decent return policies, as well as a price that won't break the wallet and all the obvious stuff. I would like to find a bag under 100, any ideas? I don't think I want to get a bag off ebay or amazon, craigslist btw, that is out of the question. I need to know that I can return the bag if it does not suit me.
cant get much cheaper than sportsmans guide, and i have never had any problems with customer service from them.. http://www.sportsmansguide.com/sear...ault.asp+KW+Box&s=SEARCH&a=search&k=back+pack then theres campmor, better selection but there a bit more pricey. http://www.campmor.com/outdoor/gear...and=text&ip_text=backpack&image.x=0&image.y=0
REI Has some good stuff (www.rei.com) Eastern Mountain Sports is also one of my favorite small outdoor chains. (www.ems.com) I used to be a member of an Appalachian Trail enthusiasts site but far too many of the other posters turned out to be ultra-right wing conservative Christian taser-carrying prison guard assholes. Honestly, who has the time or patience to deal with people like that? But that would be the place to ask. www.whiteblaze.com
thanks for your help guys. I ended up picking up a pack that can hold 5000 cubic inches for 85 bucks at a local LL Bean. It might not be THE BEST deal I could have gotten, but I think it is darn close. Plus it cuts out shipping costs and waiting..so now I just have it and can move on to other things needed for travel, like a sleeping bag or air mattress, haha.
REI also has a NO QUESTIONS Return policy. Dont like it? send it back. Too small? Send it back. Wrong color? send it back.
I buy a lot of small stuff at REI, but the only big items I've purchased are there line of Thermarest knock-offs. They're pretty reliable. And if I don't like it, or it fails, I take it back and they replace it, no questions.
I have the REI morning star pack for about 4 years now and I've used it for everything from overnight on the trail, to music festivals and airports. I never have trouble fitting all my gear in it and its never had and failure as far as I know.
I use an REI UL45. It's not as big as I'd like but being a fairly dedicated gram weenie (I think I've mentioned this before ) I find that if it doesn't fit I probably don't need it. My gear list is around here someplace, I'll post it in a few.
Hey there I got me an awesome pack from Mountain Smith at a Dicks Sporting Goods for $107.00 after taxes. It's a full, exterior frame pack with lots of pockets. It has the standard adjustable straps with support clips and waist band strap. The main compartment is large and can be reached from a lower zipper pocket, where I put my food, as well as up top, where I put my clothes. At the bottom of the frame is a strong mesh with two straps that clip and hold your sleeping bag and tent. There's even room on top to tie on extra gear to the frame for long trips. It's lightweight and strong, and I use it on every trip. Though only a few months old, it served me well this summer and fall. Hope this helps, peace, Spirit Wynd
