I took a job last summer that was too far to drive to, and doesn't pay well, but they offer Telecommuting which I desperately want to do. So far, they've treated me pretty unfairly in all areas of my progress and last Friday denied my third request to sign up to work from home, yet they are asking others to sign up because of the crowded conditions in the call center. Their reasons don't seem to apply to the other employees, only me. Is there something going on that I don't know about? I've been an excellent employee, do they want me to quit? Has my supervisor been lying to me for some reason? Please help...finding another job ain't that easy these days. Thanks for your time.
i suggest documenting your every request and response, and the next step should be to go to a higher authority.
I've thought about going higher, but feel that would only create "tension" between me and the lower decision makers...and, because these are the kind of complaints I take reports for at the hotline I work at, I've learned that management usually sticks together and defends one another. I guess my biggest problem is I don't understand why their doing this and what their intentions are.
Are you saying that the reasons they state for denying your telecommuter requests apply to other people, but those people are getting their requests accepted? If so, I would suggest that you're not going to get fair treatment on this job, and I suggest you update your resume and look for a better job. After you find another job and accept it, you might consider requesting a private talk with your supervisor, state your point of view calmly and objectively, and see if they provide any insights. But my guess is that you'll get no help. Good luck...
Pretty much. Everything my supervisor tells me seems to be the opposite of what the Telecommuters tell me...as far as how to qualify. They didn't have to do any of the things I was required to do, and I still got turned down. I agree with what you suggested, I just wish I knew why they would want to lose a good employee.
why did you post it here? were u expecting a psychic answer lol. ive never been in that position before but i would be very clear with my boss and ask him straight out. dont ask if they will give you the job, just ask straight out why they wont.
Yes actually...I was hoping for psychic insight about what might be going on and if I should stick it out or pack up and leave. Changing jobs is something that I really don't care to do, and I thought if I had a little help making my decision it would be easier.
p.s. vsergio....I don't appreciate your "sarcasm"....I'm having a serious problem and need some advice. Why do you hang out in this forum, if you have no respect for the talented "readers" here.
I know what you mean Kathleen, it doesn't make sense. But let's face it: You're not really happy with this job, are you? See, our shadows (or "higher selves" or whatever you want to call it) pull strings in the physical world sometimes without our being consciously aware of it. They can make things happen that don't make sense, like this - in order to get us to a situation better suited for us. My guess is that's what's happening here, and there's a better job waiting for you right now.
I'm in total agreement with zengizmo on this. There is an unseen awareness at work that yourself and indeed everyone else is connected to and it does what is right for everybody. So don't worry about it. If you have faith in your guidance it'll work for you, but if you think it's all down to you and that there is no guidance, then things become harder for us. If it feels right, at least for now then stay. If it doesn't then leave or look for something else with the knowledge that help IS being given. There will be something appropriate for you but one just can't see it yet. Have faith and just do what you think is right... and what feels right. Sometimes we just have to let go of the controls a bit and trust.
Thanks Zengizmo...I understand what your saying, and actually I really do like the job itself, just not the way I've been treated. And I've been checking the want ads for other opportunities. Sometimes I have a little trouble letting go of my "why's", LOL. When I was a child, anytime I asked my mother why, she would say "Because I said so"...and it made life pretty confusing at times. But even after all these years, I find that if I know "why" about whatever it is, I can accept it easily and move on....oh well, in time I'll have the answer I need...could be ten years from now, but eventually the answer will be revealed. Thanks for the great advice...
It means the boss can see that other people want to be around you!. I once asked to be promoted, which would mean that I would have to work alone, I have more qualifications than the others, and it didn't make sense, but to my boss, it meant that the workplace would suffer, she hinted. Your a healer type i can tell. Use your qualities of empathy, connectedness, positivity, to direct your soul in a more satisfying role.
