back in july a stray showed up at our house ( I think she may have been dumped). Of course I've been keeping fresh food and water out for her and leaving our porch door open so that she can come onto the porch. At first she wouldnt even come near me or anyone else but now she's gotten a little better and will sometimes let me pet her...but only for a second untill she runs away. Anyway, I would like to adopt her, even tho i dont really have the means to take on another animal, i hate to see her have to go to a shelter, esp because she's is SO attached to my cat beaker and he loves her too. they spend alot of time outdoors together, sleeping and eating together. The problem is that she wont come in the house. I've tried everything to get her to come indoors and she will come inside for a second but as soon as she sees a person or the dogs she runs back out. once she came in and i shut the door behind her to see what she would do and she freaked out so i let her out. Im sure she needs general vet attention and i guess she could continue to live outside but its so cold now with winter and all. plus i'd like to treat her for fleas and all that.....i bought her a dog house and filled it with cedar chips and put it outside but she is afraid of it...she NEVER goes in it.
ok so here is the problem. i do have the option of trapping her and bringing her to the local shelter with the hope she will be adopted but right now they are loaded with cats and kittens and the odds are that she will be euthanized. infact i called to ask someone there about it and their response was "its hard to say". So what do I do...do i just leave her here as a stray cat outside or do i take her to a shelter? im trying to figure what would be in her best interest and i keep going back and forth. i mean if she would just come inside and be a normal cat everything would be fine but she is just so skiddish. i dont think she will ever come around. what do i do?

oh and ive already called every no kill shelter in the area and they are all full.

Had the same problem a couple of years ago, all shelters full and the cat in question didn't seem easy in our house. Advice was to carry on feeding which we did and eventually we found her a home where she's happy. I think if you keep feeding her and building trust she'll come round especially as she's already willing to venture indoors of her own accord. Good luck!

I agree, If you want to keep her around just keep trying to earn her trust. If you trap her and take her to the vet it could ruin everything you have been working on. I doubt she has been altered right?

she is not spayed and just yesterday i noticed she has a slight limp! im dying to get her to the vet but i know if i trap her then she will loose any trust shes built up in me. infact ive been spending the last six months trying to earn her trust. i will just sit outside with her and talk to her, pet my other cat in front of her, and hand feed her tuna.....but still she is so weary of me and the dogs especially. she hates them...

its so hard.. SO hard to find a home for a cat. ive been trying and everyone i talk to either has "too many as it is" or "isnt a cat person". i just feel like no matter what i do she isnt going to want to come inside and i hate for her to keep living outdoors, esp when summer comes she will be ridden with fleas and it will be so hot out......
