I love new age music. My dad introduced me to it. My favourite new age bands/artists are Enigma and Enya. I love them both to bits! Enya is beautiful and Enigma are like nothing else out there!I was brought up on this kind of music and i love it.

    peace and love

Wow, never heard Enya or Enigma described as 'new age' before but I guess I can almost see where you're coming from ;)

What exactly do you mean by new age music? Living where I do there is a whole stack of it in nearly every shop but it still conjures up images of pan pipes and bad synth sounds......having said that, if you hear the right stuff you can be on to a winner.

    Artists to check out:

    Stephen Halpern

    Constance Demby

    Suzanne Ciani

    George Winston

    David Arkenstone

    John Adorney

    Yanni

    Jonn Serrie

    Patrick O'Hearn

    Enya

    Nancy Rumbel and Eric Tingstad

and a lot of other good stuff that is not readily available now. Check out Don Harriss, Emerald Web, The Telling, Steve Roach, Iasos, Suzanne Doucet, Chazz, and Aeoliah, among others...

I am not well versed in "chill out" music or "trance" or "goa" and I would be very interested if some of you younger pholks could turn me on to any new music/artists in those genres that you feel I might like...

I already know about The Orb and Deep Forest and Enigma and Dead Can Dance and Robert Miles... :)

Enigma are pretty cool, not a big fan of Enya though.

Is Brian Eno new age? I've always thought of him as such.

And what the hell is goa?

Goa is psychedelic trance that started in Goa funnily enough! (I just read that on a website :D )

I wouldn't class Brian Eno as new age either. 'New Age' music to me is usually stuff based around healing, meditation etc etc, usually with lots of synth and various bells, chimes, unusual vocals and perhaps mixed with a dash of 'nature' sounds like water, dolphins etc etc.......I live in a new age town, can't get away from the stuff!

What I've heard of Eno (and it's not much) is mostly very flowing, gentle synth lines blending and weaving together. if you're into new age music, I'd check that out. Other than that, the nearest I have is on a whalesong CD that I bought for samplnig purposes and was really annoyed to find had loads of new age music in the background dirtying up the sound.

Goa I will look into though, I'm not exactly into trance, but sometimes it's nice to lie there and have the world just flow over you.
