New Book comming out, need publisher

Hi Everyone,
As you can see I'm new to this forum... I have finished a book about my life in the Haight during the 60's 70's ect ( aslo have sequel in the making) . I was inquiring if any one knows of a publisher who may accept books of this sort.. any help will be a blessing. I would publish myself.. but I'm not that energetic . I'm thinking of putting together a book of poems and have a series of childerns books I'd like to get out, based on the adventures of my Chauaua and the animals on my East Texas farm. I write songs sometimes when the mood strikes me.
I don't know about everyone, but it may be interesting to find out. When I write, it's like a flood of waves washing over me and I am compelled to write. Stories,Poems, Books Songs... anything that my mind is set on. I find I cant stop writing till it's all in type as the mental pictures flash in my brain.(wonder if writing effects everyone like that). I'm not that good with fiction..mostly what happens in my life as I see it, or how I'm feeling about life in general.

For something like what you have, YOUR story in the sixties? You might want to check with the Owner(s) of this site. Hip Publishing... Otherwise you could try a web search like I'm about to do. Otherwise, I have this list. It's pretty OLD, but should give you someplace to start.

Matt, many thanks my friend, I take it your a writer also, what kind of writing do you do. Yes my book is about my life as a hippie in the Haigh middle 60's on my arrivel to hippiedom. I also have a sequal in the making. I have a lot of words in me that need to come out. And I feel that there needs to be some books/information about the sixties that isnt really based on a political theam.

I have three in the works. Plus the beginning of my own Bio. Two Detective books, and one Sci-Fi.

 

Go to the Bookstore and search for books in you genre.


There's your list of publishers to submit to.

But the advice I've been given is to concentrate on finding an agent first. A list of agents willing to look at your manuscript is easily obtained on the net. Some of them except e-mail submissions.

 

(Shakes Head, shrugs shoulders) Our Guru has spoken. Although, Gecko isn't MOD in here, he should be. He knows his stuff!

I have had some offers to proof read my manuscript via the net, but I must admitt I'm a little leary about theift as I have no copyright as of yet, as for the agent.. yikkeees.. (hummmm looks as tho I have a trust issue).. but to turn my power over to someone else doesn't suit me (let alone my money or is it let my money alone).. I should publish it myself and quit trying to find an easier way. But that would intail a new project and at this time my project agenda is overflowing. Maybe I'll just sit on it and let my son get it published when I die. I've always heard you never get famous till your dead anyway.. ha!


Matt> it sounds like you've got it going on... I think bios are hard, for the reason that doing the me I thing humbles us some what and leaves us to smooth things over a bit, taking the rough edges off.. I find my self doing that a lot, I have to try to let the jagged edges stay, to get the true grit of the realizium of what the message is. Si-Fi is popular so I see a great future for you in that area.

Perhaps you should consider writng a screenplay version-much easier too market. True to life '60's films do well.

 

Gecko > I love it ..when I was writing my book I was thinking screen play, a movie, I thought it would make a great movie, it has drugs sex music violence and a message to the youth. But alas I have no formal education in writing. I get "struck" by a writing frenzy and stories just pour from my head, I write them down as fast as I can and edit later. For the last 29 yrs I have basicaly done material on different methods of natural healing. This project is a little different and more of a challange. I don't have a clue as to how to form a screen play.. any advise would be rewarded with love and graditude.
