Alright so I just got a new little preamp to do some recording and I hooked it up to my laptop but whenever i try to record a track theres a whole lot of back ground noise. I connected the preamp from the stereo out to an adapter to the mic input in my computer. The weird thing is is that theres no noise on my old Dell desktop. So Im thinking its the input itself in my laptop, there may be something a little off.
So I suppose my question is: Is there any other way I can hook it up to my computer? Theres no USB out on the preamp and I dont have firewire on my laptop so Im hopin theres some sort of cord or something

Your background noise is what kind of noise.... Do you have a noise limit on to pre amp? Are your connections to your computer picking up static EMF from a tv..or flouresent lamp... And I see your using a a 1/8 mic to your computer... There are a couple of software products that have a amp to usb cord for about $80.00, Hard to say if that will reduce noise because your pick ups and cords are still analog at that point.. You can try sheilding your cords.. Get better pick ups, Noise limiter pedals.. See if that helps .. Also this type of recording is sensitive to noise and attack sounds cause its going directly into the recording device... When recording live music I use a mic and place it away from the Speaker cabinet.. Because the cabinet is where the the natural beauty of the guitar comes out of...
