I have been thinking about it and want to try the whole barefoot thing.
    My questions are:
    1) is it as simple as just going places barefoot?
    2) What do you do in the summer? I live in Florida and the concrete can get VERY hot.

I'll probably think of more questions later.

Yes it is just as simple as going where ever you'd like barefoot.
I live in Canada and this might come as a shock to a lot of people but our pavement gets incredibly hot too. I suck it up, try to like meditate somewhat while I'm walking so I won't feel it as much. When it gets really bad I chill out in some shade for 5 minutes. Good luck man. Peace

P.S. Carry a water bottle around with you to pour on them. Might wanna bring some tweezers in your pocket too.

When it's hot all you can do is pace yourself. Only go out barefoot for a few short walks at first. If you get to the point where you think you're going to get blisters then you need to stop and rest your feet. Then the next time you go out you'll find it easier and be able to last longer without getting too uncomfortable. And of course you can always aim for shady spots as much as possible, and try and walk on the lighter coloured surfaces rather than dark or black ones. Eventually you'll build up a resistance to the heat and you will impress yourself at how much you can handle, up to a point of course. If it gets too hot to be able to spend too much time in the sun anyway, it'll probably too hot to go barefoot there as well.

try walking down to the mailbox about midday and see what you think.

the best thing is to take is slowly and get used to going barefoot

I make sure there are shady areas whenever I walk on hot asphalt barefoot. That way, I can always stop and rest in the shade whenever my feet feel like they're burning.
