WHo here watches some good old fashoined NHL Hockey. Discuss the season so far and declare your favorite team. For me its the leafs(i know laugh all you want) and i also kinda like the sharks...there always my back up team lol
like most sports.. except for Football... i find them boring to watch on TV.. its fine here and there... though i do love going to the Xcel Energy Center(which was named "the cribs of the NHL" by ESPN) Hometown boy.. love the Wild.. when the North Stars left minnesota i became a Hawks and Sharks fan... whom i still fallow as well
DALLAS STARS! Pantera made the team's theme song, how badass is that? I watch every game and drive from Houston to Dallas for a couple games a year, and I go to every home playoff game also. The Stars are pretty hurt (like last year) at the moment, Modano, Lehtinen, Ott, and Brad Richards are all injured but thankfully nothing serious. More depth than last year so they are doing okay for now, need those guys back to be a legit contender. They are 3-2-3 right now, and they are looking more comfortable now in Crawford's new system every game, so I expect a good year.
...fuck the Stars... though on a semi-related note i have a Russ Courtnall game used stick.. got it the one time i went to the Met Center to see the North Stars play
it was more than just bad attendance.. the owner was being sued for sexual harassment and the city did not want to build a new stadium...
Ya, but in business it's all about the money in the end. I read some Sports Illustrated article about the whole deal, I know how it feels though. A lot of people are still upset about the Oilers leaving and how that all went down.
I'm just glad i got to go to a North Stars game.. cuz a lot of people these days cannot say the same thing... Xcel Energy Center on the other hand is always packed and the energy is sooooo fucking intense there.. its amazing..
For me its the MTL Canadiens and the SJ Sharks. Ive always wanted to go to a sharks game at SJ, its supposed to be one of the loudest arenas packed with super intense fans
Maybe if they didn't charge so much, then more people would feel inclined to go to these games. Personally I'd never pay more than $50 for a ticket to any sporting event, because I don't really give a shit about sports. I could take that money and buy some psychoactive substances and have alot more fun then I would watching a bunch of sweaty dudes hitting, batting, kicking, slapping a ball or puck around and slamming into one another occasionally.
The NHL in America is soft as fuck. I was in Buffalo to watch the wings verse the Sabers and it was so hurtin' compared to being in Montreal. Seeing the Canadians at the Bell Centre was definitely an experience.. Such dedicated fans. Hell, I've seen the fans get more into games here in Hamilton watching the Bulldogs (AHL team) play than in Buffalo... Maybe Buffalo just has shitty fans though... I know Detroit sure know how to put on a good show.
The Shark Tank in San Jose is well known for having a lot of loud, dedicated fans. Dallas has a pretty good following also, the Stars have created a winning culture and Texans love competitive sports. I have to say though, when it never snows where you live, it's hard to get super into hockey, haha. I can't speak for Buffalo though.
Haha yeah my dad loved the North Stars as he grew up in St. Louis Park, MN and he still has matching sweatpants and sweater. I love me some Wild or Black Hawk action.
another note on Canadians winning the cup.. in the 80s the Oilers were the super team of the NHL.. probably will go down as the best hockey team ever... Gretzky... Messier... Kurri.. Fuhr... Coffey...
lol.. what do you want them to support you in? playing the piano or somthing? Nike/Bauer, RBK, and a tonne of other huge companies put huge support into arena's, sponsoring teams, community efforts, etc. That is a company but that is directly related to the NHL in ever aspect, the real support from an NHL franchise is to your city/community which prosper from the team's presence [not in some markets] so they are not completely out of it by any means. Anyways.. Canucks for me, live and die Canucks pretty much.. I have 2 sets of season tickets available at my disposal, this is game 1 of the playoffs last year VS the blues:
