so i got paid today, money still coming in from work even though i no longer work there, which is nice. so i decided to go check out the offerings at my local beer store. got into a nice conversation with 2 of the guys who work there about cellaring beer, and how i wanted to try some stouts since its a beer style i'm not all that familiar with. i picked up a 6 pack of Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout. 3 are being cellared, and I will be drinking the other 3 in the near future. 2 Podge Belgian Imperial Stouts 2 Southern Tier Choklat 2 Nogne Imperial Stouts 1 of each of those will be cellared nesta, they do have the Founders Breakfast Stout currently and I asked them if they were going to get the Kentucky Breakfast Stout and they said they were definitely going to try to get some when it is released in January. So I will be keeping my heads up for that.
Hello, Can I have some beer? Thank you in advance, Upper Level Management, Department of Child Services
yea, i really am interested in the complexity of some of these beers no beer until you are done with work will do...gonna have the Brooklyn beer tonight
yea, all the beers i've had from Brooklyn Brewery have been great I'm letting the beer warm up since it was in the fridge when i got it, so its pretty cold. Should be ready to drink by dinner
I worked for 10 hours today. I deserve a beer. I got some Sam Adams in the fridge, might hit that up and watch the game in a bit.
my neighbors drink that. they drink twice as many beers as dave and i to get a buzz. you should pony up for the stronger stuff.
i got six pounders. it will be enough for a buzz for sure. and its not just a matter of cost, its a matter of selection. i wanted a sixpack, and preferably cans tongiht. heavier, higher quality beers are better tasting, but not universally more inebriating
beer store eh? good idea I have still been on a Belgian kick, with some Magic Hat thrown in It seems winter is best for the better, higher alcohol beer. In summer I like lagers and such I have never had any of those beers, let us know how they are. Also, what is cellaring...does it just mean saving some in the basement until they have aged a bit?
that could just as well be cheaper haha for the same price i could have got a 6 pack of steel reserve pints. but then i'd go overboard and get trashed tonight, and likely finish them all off, and it would be no good cause i have stuff to do tomorrow, plus i'm not feeling well. so i kind of wanted weaker stuff tonight.
cellaring is aging, essentially under the same conditions as wine. a difference is storing them upright versus horizontally. some beers age magnificently, some go bad, it depends on the beer. but most strong beers are likely to take on new dimensions and complexities with some aging at the right temperature (cellar temperature) anywhere from 6 months to several years is good for aging beers. usually stronger beers are best for this, and especially belgians, belgians style beers, or a few others such as heavier stouts and ipas, and even a few lagers such as doppelbocks
the Magic Hat brewery is a fun visit and yea, cellaring just means aging the beer. i'm just starting out, so i'm building up the beers i have to cellar. one guy has 17 cases aging, and the other guy has something like 23 cases - thats a lot of beer usually i'm all about very hoppy beer, but i've been wanting to try more styles out. gonna pick up some oatmeal stouts next time i go
