not to offend anyone, but i'm getting kinda sick of hemp, i've been making hemp jewlery since i was 12! i would like to venture into other mediums, like metal, glass beads etc....
does anyone know anything about this? i don't even know where to start!

I have a lot of fun with wire, beads and rocks. Just twist the wire around rocks, chrystals, etc to make pendants. Twist some more wire to make a chain. Do a search and I'm sure you'll find lots of ideas

I hope I don't get flung warp speed out of the forum for saying this, but I don't really like hemp either. I have not used it in jewelry making because I can't wear it. For whatever reason it makes me itch. It's a bummer too, because there is a lot of really cool jewelry made from hemp out there.

However! I have used, and really like this stuff called Stretch Magic, made by the Pepperell Braiding Company. It's a plastic elastic and it's pretty dang tough. I use it partly because I'm too lazy to use clasps. Using the plastic elastic you don't need clasps, even for fitting necklaces because they stretch. You can get it in clear or black (that I've seen) and in varying diameters. It's cool stuff and can be gotten at craft stores.

I like to make paper beads and then make necklaces/bracelets with them in conjunction with glass beads--and some funky plastic beads sometimes. :)

    mtnhighgirl,

I have been greatly curious about jewelry made with wire wrapped around rocks/gems. I think they're lovely, but it seems like if they got caught on anything the rock would pop out of the wire. Do they actually hold up pretty well? And do you have to use glue to keep the wire from shifting? Just curious. :)
