the world showed up in a reading:
a sign of rounded character, individuality
the familiarity of ones place in everyday affairs
what bullshit. Who am i. What the fuck’s going on.

I know I’ve been smoking too much
    it’s a nervous countermeasure
causing the throb in my throat
is why I get sick more often
    I cough
    I grind my teeth habitually
a cigarette and a game of chess
the unfolding of the queens indian
    while building a castle king-side

and had the cable been connected
    chess would not have happened
    and I wouldn’t remember a thing
well maybe a joke from comic stand-up
or fragmented pieces of dexter’s lab
    but no brownies with walnuts
    and chunks of choco chips
    or that icy heineken: ah, so good;
    slurs speech, delivers abandon
    allows inexplicable subject changes

I shouldn’t have gotten into that fight
on the school bus on the way home
but this kid sat down, tried to crush
    and hell no,
I put his head through the window
    broken glass, blood, people screaming
    and I can’t believe I’ve not talked
about it before, I never even got detention

most people have knots around their shoulders
I’m no exception, she found them
dug her fingers in till it hurt
    except I couldn’t admit that:
    code of brawn over brain

    last night I thought about
    and decided to…
    but it’d make her…
and I’d look over my shoulder
or tilt my head back, looking up
    and she’d be right there.
    it may not make sense
    but what really does
that cup of dark roast coffee
    sometimes tastes funny
    doesn’t make sense
the nervous twitch of your eye
    for no particular reason
    doesn’t
    and won’t
    not ever

I got engulfed and lost in your train of thought, well in a good way. An interesting stream of consciousness. Such a ride.
