http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=89164759 I really gotta give the guy some credit...this restores a bit of my faith in humanity.
I read a short story about that exact scenario. Exept the women ended up buying the kid blue suede shoes, because thats what he wanted the money for.
And what kind of punishment do you think would be appropriate for someone who commits armed robbery, Pressed_Rat?
And how on earth could the average age of the world's greatest civilizations be only 200 years? The Romans? The Greeks? The Chinese? The Egyptians? Sounds like a weak attempt to slander the U.S. under the guise of academia.
lots of hippies live in nyc and diaz might of met one of them and that's what inspired him to be so loving and peaceful
LOL, I believe that is simply a modern day interpretation of the fist act of Les Miserables. I like it.
I do. I used to spend my lunch break out in a park in the middle of the city where a lot of hobos lived. Most of them were dirty, they stole, begged, abused rich people. Nothing about their appearance or behaviour suggested anything other than sheer disrespect for everyone, until you sat down and had a chat with one. At least most of the young homeless people I met turned into well spoken, thoughtful and kind human beings as soon as you treated them as such and offered a patient listening ear. I have faith that a young criminal like the one described in the story could act exactly the way he did. Or are you skeptical about the kindness of the storyteller. I believe it. I would probably curse and hate anyone who stole my wallet, but some people are amazingly kind.
