I think these recent tax cuts also are about starting to prove that the republicans and McCain and Paul are wrong, and that tax cuts don't just magically fix the economy.

It's such a credulous understanding of economics. And that's coming from a guy who's understanding of economics was selling weed in high school.

    yeah no shit.

    we need tax redistibution....
as much as people in america bitch about gas prices, they're way lower than they should be.. we need to be putting more money toward developing renewable energy.

I hate Obama, for being too much like JFK and thinking he is god.
But, a coloured president would be cool.

I disagree a bit there Zilla.

And with both candidates about energy policy actually.

Too high transportation costs will hurt our economy.

There are three main reasons for the rise in gas prices.

    1. Excessive growth in demand from developing nations such as China. Theres nothing that can be done about the demand.

    2. Speculation on oil futures. That means the people who set oil prices based on the demand, don't think that the oil production will meet the demand, so they set the price at a certain level.

If we had more investment in oil today, that would ease speculators bearish concerns, and the price would drop. That's where I disagree with you. We need to promote more development in drilling operations.

I also extensively disagree with John McCains energy policy in regards to how he sees energy development. But I won't go into that to keep this more concise.

    3. The inflation of the dollar. Oil is ties to the dollar, and when the dollar buys less oil, the cost of oil will rise. The way we could combat this is making a serious commitment to balancing the budget.

We need to both slow the rise of gas prices by drilling more like McCain wants to do domestically, and invest heavily in alternative research like Obama wants to do.

No way do plants suck. If I had a choice of spending my life with one animal, be it human or otherwise, or spending my life with one plant. I would choose the plants hands down.

    Word to tax redistribution.

Heres what I predict the solution for our energy needs in about 30 years.

We won't use wind or solar. They are too disparate. That's not the way our energy consumption works. We have plenty of energy that way. We have infinite energy that way. We do by burning timber too. It's just not energy dense. That's what our desire for energy is. We have limitless energy. We just need really dense energy to power our societies.

For eclectic, we will likely be relying on coal primarily for another 60 years. I hate it because even with clean coal technologies, which may or may not be a fleece... it's fucking horrible for human rights.

But it's my prediction. It'll end up happening for another 50 years. We'll be relying more on coal.

After that point, we can have fusion plants up though. Fusion is perfect energy. A fusion plant can't melt down. It's impossible based on the way that fusion works. and produces no radioactive waste. Theres enough tritium in the oceans to power the energy needs of the planet for several trillion years.

For transportation oil prices will run up, and we'll hopefully make a careful switch to PEM cells. PEM cells are hydrogen fuel cells. Hydrogen fuel cells are just batteries really. But they work wonders. Enough to power a car well.

Not like lithium ion batteries which is what electric cars use now. Essentially a bunch of cell phone batteries in your car.

But unlike McCain, Paul wanted to also reduce spending.

i see what youre saying spence, but i think the best way to fund research for oil substitution is through raising taxes on it. a lot of other countries are doing it with great success. we have to keep in mind the "real cost" of gasoline and coal - that is, the cost of the oil AND the cost of dealing with the damage it does to the environment.

it's like cigarettes. places like chicago and new york have raised the taxes on them, and statistics have shown that a significant percentage of people have quit smoking. people know it's bad for them and can no longer afford to spend money on something that hurts them.

we need to put money toward better public transportation and toward building cars that run on something other than gas. if people can't afford to fill their tanks up, they will buy more energy efficient cars or find another mode of transportation, and car companies will start producing hybrids and other energy-efficient vehicles. think about all the people in texas who used to be in oil who are now in wind energy. money drives everything.

What I did about high gas prices was buy one of these.

Cost me $700. Found it on craigslist.

Some people we're kinda joking with me when I first got it. but when gas get's to $6 in a year and a half, It's going to be the new trend and I'll have babes all over me.

I heard today that they are going to retire the Hummer.

Well I do agree somewhat there. The most fiscally irresponsible thing I've seen was Bush's policies of cutting taxes while massively increasing spending.

It's like if you got fired from your second job and decided to spend your new found free time going on coke binges.

The thing with most of these FAKE conservatives like Bush and McCain is that they're every bit pro-big government as the liberals they're supposedly on the opposite side of. There is nothing remotely conservative about these people. The only thing that makes Bush a conservative is his "Christian" act.

I mean I agree mostly. I agree on the real prices of coal and gas.

And higher gas prices will be the thing that ultimately encourages growth in alternative energy research.

But at the same time, it has to be controlled. What I don't agree with about your smoking analogy is people don't need to smoke. They do need to travel.

And if people without the resources are forced with overbearing gas prices too much too fast, it will hurt the most destitute of people just trying to get to work at a $7 an hour job.

I don't want to break people who are already struggling, which is why I say we do need to slow the rise in gas prices.

They are already high enough to encourage serious investment in alternatives now.
