So. The cops feel insulted. And Obama thinks their treatment of his Harvard Professor friend was "stupid" and blames it on racism. Unfortunately, even Obama doesn't get it. Altho saying it's "stupid" is being relatively KIND, it's not about racism. It's not about making a mistake. It's not about an "overzealous" cop. This is simply WHAT COPS DO. This is an example of STANDARD PROCEDURE, and race has nothing to do with it. The sooner people get this thru their thick heads the better. Every single one of us is at risk of being victimized by the police, no matter what our race or position. With Obama making "race" excuses, the problems within our police departments will never get any better and the "police state" continues..
Now, thanks to Obama, it is OK for criminals to berate and belittle cops. If you are asked for id by a cop just yell at him "You are a _______ (racist, feminist, whatever) and according to Obama it would be a stupid move for the cop to insist for your compliance. He said the cop acted stupidly when he didn't even know the facts of the case. Then when he did learn the facts, he refused to recant. Yes, they were in Gates home, but Gates was still belligerent and rude.
I'm not arguing. Except to say that maybe he is VERY smart and knows EXACTLY what he is doing in a massive power grab.
He had his picture ID with his address on it....I would think that would be proof enough after they run it through the computer and shit
Yes, it is perfectly ok because what the cop did was right. The cop may have gone a little overboard, and cops need to show restrain and calm. But Gates went WAY THE FUCK OVERBOARD!!!
We know that Gates lived there. That is not the problem. It is the way Gates treated the cop. Yelling at him, not being compliant, calling him a racist. You would think that Gates would be happy that the cops are coming out and protecting his house and doing his job. And you would think that Gates would be happy that the cops insisted to see ID, even after the guy verbally attacked the cop.
Not the cop, obama. The cop doesn't have to recant, Obama does. Read the sentence below then go back and read my previous post on which you are commenting. Obama said the cop acted stupidly even though he didn't know the facts. Then when he (Obama) learned the facts he refused to recant. The facts are that Gates was rude to the cop before the cop could get an ID. The cop asked Gates to come outside because he knew there was another man inside (Gates's friend) and he thought it was a home invasion. A neighbor reported hearing Gates yelling at the cop before and when he came outside before and after he handed over the id.
From Gates point of view he was in the right. Why should he be asked for ID? I am no fan of living in a police state.
has nothing to do with a police state. the cop just wanted to see his id then he would have left. gates started yelling at the cop and making a scene. when a neighbor reports somebody that looks like they are trying to break into a house, they will act accordingly. should the cops have just left it alone? the cop was just doing his job. gates acted beligerent. if he would have been white, the same thing would have happened. its standard procedure
YEP Gates had locked himself out of the house accidentally and had to break it. So a neighbor called it in. So the cops came. We are not really in a police state.
I just heard Obama say that he would like to invite Gates & Sargeant Crowley over for a beer to talk this over. I would love to hear this, because Crowley WOULD OWN!!!
Oh, you know what, I just wanted to add. Normally I hate cops, cause normally they are pricks. But I hate anyone who is a prick, and someone who is reasonable and in the right, I prefer them always, even if it's the cop that is the prick.
That's backwards reasoning. He is DARK SKINNED and therefore knows a little something about cops. Most of the cops I know are criminals. If you berate and belittle them they will probably beat you up, tazor you, arrest you for obstruction or resisting arrest... Many cops ARE stupid. Obama's humanness just came thru.
How does that fit in with the fact the cop was in the wrong? Obama pointed it out. That's a GOOD thing. The BAD thing is he got the reason WHY wrong.
