California is trying to LEGALIZE weed. Because of the economy. They say they want to tax it and regulate it's sale to 21 and over. http://www.dailytitan.com/news/pack_a_bowl_to_ease_california_s_economic_woes-1.1594278 http://www.celebstoner.com/200902241546/news/marijuana-news/from-decrim-to-tax-a-regulation.html http://www.suntimes.com/news/huntley/1456881,CST-EDT-hunt03.article It's probably unlikely since Federal Law says it's a schedule I drug. But holy shit, if this actually happened. It would really get the ball rolling
The federal law really doesn't mean much though, I mean there are like 15 states right now flying in the face of federal law because they decriminalized weed. The awesome power and confusion of a federal form of government
Yeah but CA is dealing with other shit right now. One of the articles said it would have to be rescheduled for them to be able to collect tax for it.
its a brilliant idea too. those coffee shop owners in cali have to pay somethin like half a mill in income tax. we could be out of this economic slump in no time if it was legal
i wonder wat would happen if the US Federal gov legalized it. u think the rest of the world might follow?
Considering America is 'the world police', more than likely. Maybe not right away, but it would definitely happen.
I'm pretty sure the only reason it's illegal here is because Canada likes to nut ride the US and until the US changes their policies, nothing will happen here.
If the new drug czar guy, whazzizname, does the same thing for federal MJ policy as he did for Seattle's drug policy, that will be irrelevant. State & local governments are having to make some HARD choices now on how to spend their (dwindling) incomes. I can easily see more conservative states deciding they have worse problems to spend their police budgets on than enforceing marijuana laws, and states like CA, which is going seriously broke, deciding if can make $50/oz off pot, it might as well do it. Remember, it was the 1st Great Depression that helped bring about the end of alchohol prohibition.
didnt obama say that the federal governemnt wouldnt get involved on states isues(such as drug laws) but i see that it cant be taxed unless rescheduled, but inorder for it to be rescheduled from an illicit drug that can be abused frequently it has to be legalized, but inorder to be legalized it has to be taxed, but in order for it to be taxed it has to be rescheduled. its a never ending circle that the federal governemnt has, unbenouced to us, trapped marijuana in. but i think it will soon break out anyway
he said (or someone said for him) that it wouldn't meddle in medical marijuana laws and dispensaries approved by their state governments. as far as california goes, i am excited for it because it is a good experiment. CA is shit out of funding, right? so if they legalize and tax MJ then america and the world can see how lucrative it is, and how much it can help the economy. when you have money new money (from a certain source like MJ taxes specifically) hides among the old money, its harder to track. i hope they do it, and i hope they pull it off. that is what would change the broader picture.
Yeah and America is all about money. Money is power. That's capitalism. So hopefully it'll go though and all the fat cats can see how much money it makes, because everyone loves weed. Even more people would smoke if it was legal. It would make even more than it does now.
