Yeah, check your phonebook and see if there are any army surplus stores in your area. Here you can buy old army jackets for five dollars.

I love army surplus stores. We have a good one in town, lots of camping & survival gear too. I got one of my favorite jackets there. If you don't have one near you, there are tons of websites if you just do a google search. Or try a thrift shop.

That's not a jacket, it's a shirt - the predecessor to the top of a set of BDUs (Battle Dress Utilities). The great "army jacket" is the Vietnam-era all cotton olive drab field jacket (M-65) that is very hard to find now. The color washes out to a light green and they get as soft as flannel but still turn the wind; you can stand to wear it open in hot weather, and it's fairly warm zipped up when it's cold. Only jacket/coat I owned for several years.

The newer ones are part poly-something and stay dark and a bit stiff after washing. If you can find one of the old M-65s, you won't regret buying it.

If you have no luck at your local surplus store, which might just be the case, they mostly have only the camo versions of the shirts and jackets, you can try the sportsmans guide, they offer od green versions like John wore, usually from military outfits from overseas.
    Good luck....

yeah, my boyfriend got his great-grandpa's WW2 marines jacket-it still has his patches, decorations, etc. on there, but what is really cool is that his last name, white, which is also my boyfriend's name, is still on the breast.

I have this light jacket ("COAT, MAN'S, COMBAT, TROPICAL" is what the tag says) I found for like $9 at an antique store in Illinois. It's full of holes though so I'm in the process of patching it up.
