How mad are you at old navy for having all these bohemian skirts and tops??? I want to kill! No one is going to support independant artists when they can get sweatshop cheap clothes at old navy. I'm so mad. Please tell me you will all boycott these assholes?
Independant artists don't make anything that fits me, nor do I really like most of it... and Old Navy is one of the few stores that not only carries clothes I like, but also fits well and is not outrageously expensive. :\ I really have no problem with Old Navy... they are simply catering to what's "in style". And really, the people who would buy from people who make their own clothes aren't going to stop. I can't really see it changing much.
Lucy, I just went to their site to see what they had..... YES, I AM PISSED!!!! But I'm sure it won't stay in style for very long. I don't really keep up with fashion, but it seems popular styles are changing all the time. Like someone said in another thread, it will pass, soon enough!
Oh yeah, even if they have stuff I like I won't buy from them! I buy from independent artists, or make my own clothes (true bohemian style )
...I haven't a clue what they carry, and I think I'm happy keeping it that way. All I ever shop from is Salvation Army or the clearance racks.
ye im pissed as well, and the commercials suck! oh well, itll pass, jsut wait it out, ppl like us are the ones that carry on those styles event hough there out, and we like it that way! down with old navy!
most indie artists will cater to bigger or smaller people, if you just ask, and they're not all outrageously priced- look at FunkPhreshMama for example, she sells her stuff for a great price, too low for handmade/homemade goods if you ask me. The only reason old navy is so cheap is because the blood and sweat of 5 year olds go into everything they sell. The only reason i know about it is cuz I keep seeing stupid commercials for old navy and i want to stab every slut in them. Next year it will be different, i know, but for now, i'm angry. I'm even more angry because one of the skirts on the commercial i actually like. But i would never walk into an old navy for one, I like knowing that the mamas who make threads are thinking of the mama who's going to be wearing them, and frolickin around in it- that's so endearing to me.
wow I had no idea old navy was a sweat shop~ I don't buy from them anyway but now I'll have to warn my friends not to too. thanx for the info!
i have an old navy in the mall were i work and i've seen the stuff, along with the stuff in all the other 'trendy' stores there and even if its cute i won't buy it because it looks like all the shit every one else is wearing, and probably not half as well sewn. at least independent mamas like funkyphresh are original in their fabric and ways of designing, same as the clothes i resew from sally-ann sales
I haven't been into an old navy store...but I know one thing,I hate those commercials on TV...so annoying. I would boycott them but I have never shopped there to begin with. We can all tell others though,if we know people who are going to buy their sweatshop clothes...damn that's sad.
gap, banana republic, and old navy are all owned by the same company, so if you're going to boycott one, boycott all. but i actually heard that they're getting better about their use of sweatshops and child labor & that kind of thing. i haven't shopped at any of those stores for a few years now, and i know the clothes are mass-produced and sometimes unoriginal, but there are worse places to get clothes from
well, i personally love old navy (though i hate the commercials with a passion). and no i am not pissed that other people may like the same clothes as me, i don't mind that the style is slightly more mainstream right now than usual, i like seeing all the different takes on the style. and how could i get pissed at the way someone dressed? wouldn't i be judging them if i said they weren't hippie enough to wear clothes i like? i try not to judge, because i know i can't stand it when it's done to me. as for buying from indie artists - i do whenever i can. i belive 100% in supporting these businesses. but to get high quality stuff, you will pay for the quality, which i don't mind - but unfortunately i can't afford to have a whole wardrobe of one of a kind handmade clothes. i make a lot myself when i have the time, but i haven't had a whole lot of extra time lately. so i shop, and it's usually old navy.
One of the things I don't like about their take on the bohemian style today is that it's all modernized, and everything looks so 21st century, rather than '60s. I know they do that on purpose, but I don't know.... I just don't like it!
When I went to my grammas wedding years ago I went to old navy and they had bohemian stuff then too................ And DEB at the mall had a shitload of it, and charlotte rousse...... I only go to charlotte rousse when they are having the buy one get one free sale at the end of the year
I am one for looking at garment construction when I shop.....I just bought some tank tops and tees from Old Navy, but the tunics look poorly made and I wouldn't waste $30 on one. The fabric is thin, you can't just throw them in the washer and dryer, and they just look like they'll fall apart after a few wearings.
Hate the commercials but love their jeans... BR, Gap and Old Navy are all the same company for sure... I used to work in a call center for them...:& (please dont cyber beat me up) Im not gonna say that its super that they have hippie clothes in their stores at the moment..but you know at least a few ppl that get into it may actually look for the real deal handmade stuff...ya never know... I still love their jeans...
ah, who cares. Sure I'm pissed off that the stuff I've been wearing since I was a wee lass is suddenly 'in' but it'll soon pass and I'm not going to waste my energy on being too mad about it. Just remember you'll all look a hell of alot better in your original clothing than the other girls will in their Old Navy gear.
the_sweet, that was incredible!!! We really shouldn't waste too much energy being mad, because like you said, it'll soon pass and we'll look better in our handmade clothing.
