Well, it's been about a week now since I've started on the road to San Francisco.
I am currently in Indiana and doing quite fine. I've been checking out the towns listed on Hippy.com as being hippy friendly. This is what I've so far determined:

Columbus Ohio: College town with a good hippy/alternative population. Things to do for the enlightened all around town, though they are hard to find. If its night life that interrests you, High Street is the place to go. High Street is also the place to go for head shops. The locals are very kind although some of them are a bit stuck up.

Waynesville Ohio: Who the hell said that was a hippy friendly town? I spent an entire day there and saw not a single hippy anywhere, nor did I see anything of interrest to do in the surrounding areas. Only exception would be that they have a Renaissance Festival there on weekends for 2 months. Maybe thats what was being referred to. Waynesville has as its claim to fame being the antique capital of some subsection of the country. Nice area but not what I would call a hippy town.

Bloomington Indiana: Well this is where I am right now, and I must say that so far this has been the most hippy friendly place I've been. Tie Dye and head shops and new age stores abound here. I was walking down the street on the main strip where I met a guy named Eric who was playing hacky sack. Boy was damn good. Taught me a couple tricks. The bar scene is typical of a college town. I was a little disappointed that none of the hippy croud was out. Prolly all back at their dorms gettin stoned or something.

Aside from that all is going well so far. I have been able for the most part, to find good places to cleanup and to park my van to sleep at night. I even managed to find a camp site with full facilities and individual electricity without having to pay for them. Apparently there is only someone there to collect rent on Friday and Saturday.

Some bad news as well. I lost my kitten in Columbus. I spent 3 days trying to find her but to no avail. Covered the entire area she was lost in with flyers. Had a false lead too on the cat but it turned out to not be her. Blistered feet and low morale cause me to give up the search and move on.

I still havent decided on where I'm going next, but the Rat Dog tour having been cancelled (due to Bob Weir's health I think) and the utter lack of festivals of any type this time of the year, I think Im just going to stick to parks, monuments and hippy towns.

I will provide another update when I have access to another internet connection. Probably in a few days.

    Peace all!
    Travelling Matt out!
