I live in one of the most conservative districts in this country, and Richmond has the most conservative federal courts, mainly because we have the Naval Weapons Station - Yorktown, Langley AFB, Camp Peary (CIA training), Milford Haven Coast Guard Base, Yorktown Coast Guard Base, Fort AP Hill, Camp Pendleton, Cheatham Annex, Fort Eustis, Newport News Shipbuilding Plant (my great-grandfather was a shipbuilder), Norshipco, Craney Island Fuel Terminal, Fort Lee, and God knows what else... So most politicians are hell bent on providing healthcare and housing to veterans... as there's really no reason to live in this part of Virginia unless you work for the military or the government these days. It's one of those places where everyone knows at least one person who has a top secret government job/works for a security agency and everyone is a member of the NRA.
