What did you think of dreads when you were a kid? My dad and all of his friends had dreads, so I didn't think too much of them (only that they were awesome). Did you think that they were gross? Awesome? Or had you never seen them until after child-hood?
I used to see people at the mall with dreads when I was little. I'd just stare outta curiosity. Seemed so odd then, I just couldn't grasp the idea at that age. But I could grasp the idea of the teenage mutant ninja turtles pizza shooter! Kids thinkin they can just ride their bikes anywhere, not in my driveway sucka. Plastic pizza for ya eyehole!
I have always seen some as awesome, and some as disgusting. Before seeing then on people, I thought they were for cool people because of Knuckles (of the Sonic games).
Never seen anyone with them until I was 16. They were like full of wax which were spray painted green... I thought it was mould, but he did smell of weed and cheese. Infact I think I saw a handful of people throughout the years up North. I don't even know why or how I decided to have dreadlocks.
I saw a couple people with dreadlocks as a teen and I was really confused on how they got them. I did like the way they looked. I looked online about them and only found things about wax and crocheting and stuff and figured it was way too intense for me.
I remember my best friends sisters boyfriend had them and we both though he was so gorgeous. they went way down his back and were natural and gorgeous. I didn't ever think that anyone could have them though so I thought they were just realli special. I figured some people were born with that type of hair.
I went on a camping trip with a dready couple when I was 10ish. It lasted about a month and we went hiking, rock climbing, rafting, and we had a great time. I thought they were really cool people and I barely noticed they had dreadlocks. They were true rainbow hippies and were a great influence on me. I learned a year ago that they disappeared into a life of vagrancy and forest life. They are completely incommunicado with their families and friends from Massachusetts. pretty cool.
If I Did See Some When I Was Young, I Certainly Don't Remember It. First Real Interest In Dreads For Me Came In The Mid 90s When I Used To Go And Visit My Ex, Up North, In A Hippie Town Called Byron Bay. At The Time I Had Long Blonde Hair With About Six Braids At The Back, And Some Of The Dreads I Saw There Were Awesome. There Was One Catch However, Dreads Had A Bad Image, As Only Being Worn By Dole Bludgers And Druggies..... So I Waited Until Twelve Months Ago *yesterday* And Decided To Go For It.. I Have No Regrets Whatsoever..... Cheers Glen.
I don't remember first thinking about them or when I first saw them, but I know I've always liked them from what I can remember. Didn't know how they were made or anything, but still thought they were awesome.
My first taste of dreads that I can remember was when I was 12....I walked to the corner liquor store to get candy and saw Ani Difranco on the cover of some rocker magazine...she had epic rainbow colored dreads...I remember thinking how gorgeous and intriguing she was so I threw down the candy and bought the magazine. After reading her article I saved my allowance and bought an Ani CD...which was the very first CD I ever bought. I loved it and I was fascinated with dreads. However I didnt dread my hair till I was 18 for the first time. On a sidenote the very second CD I ever bought was No Doubts Tragic Kingdom before Gwen turned into a douche. The 90's were great!
LOL Funnily enough I still remember them being abbrev'd as TMNT as opposed to TMHT https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5QkBT0uke4o"]YouTube- Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles intro (1987) NOW, They're called TMNT. The current cartoon isn't a patch on the original, back then, they didn't need to look mean to be badass. Actually come to think of it they changed the name because they didn't want to encourage kids to try out the karate moves in school. My school banned us playing it, actually.
I can't believe that! Whoever's choice that was to change the name deserves to get purple nurples till they bleed. There's such a huge difference between a hero and a ninja. A hero would do somethin like help get a cat that was stuck in a tree. A ninja turtle would chop down that tree in nice size for firewood, save the cat, plant a new tree and the come back to visit 3 times a year to see how the family/tree/cat are doing.
