I'm curious to see the opinions of other folks here about the possibility of electing Ron Paul for our next president. Of course he is a Republican and I hope that no one will discount him for this fact. In his favor, he has run on a libertarian ticket in the past. IMHO he stood head and shoulders above the other nominees at the debate May 3rd. His website has videos from the debate and others can be found at YouTube and GoogleVideo. His campaign website is http://www.ronpaul2008.com/. I love my country and I want to see our nation take it's proper place in the world as a leader by example. We don't need to be building or destroying other nations to do this and it has ruined our standing in the world. We don't need a suffocating, paternal government bent on controlling its citizens. Again IMHO, what we do need right now is a leader that can move us out of the morass that we find ourselves in today. What Ron Paul had to say at that debate, since that debate and the way he has voted in Congress during his terms gives me cause to believe he could be the leader to turn things around. Of course this is a group effort and we all have to do our parts too. Raise awareness, donate to the cause and vote.
Ron Paul may change the world, but how will he put more money in my pocket? Money is power nowadays, but in another sense, weapons are power for getting money and/or changing the world. I think we as ppl in North America should just revolt to change things. We got to change this worse form of capitalism to a better form of communism. Anarchism is the best bet over all the canidates for president.
Ron Paul is an anti-nwo, anti-war, anti-patriot act, republican who has been comming on The Alex Jones Show for nearly 10 years which is a radio show broadcasted from Texas. Watch him slaughter Guilianni, Romey, and the other Douchbags at the GOP presidential debates. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Hf...planet.com/articles/may2007/070507ronpaul.htm
did you know that the communists were backed by the Rothschilds, a family and major banking institution of the day? they are still around today. we have a good system of government now. the problem is that it has been hijacked by thieves. the biggest problem the citizens of the US have is the Federal Reserve. an institution that prints and loans money to the banks around the world and our federal government. it was created by our government but is responsible to no one. their meetings are secretive and if you do manage to get your hands on a transcript, months have past since the meeting. Ben Franklin said it best, "He who controls the purse strings, controls the government." Ron Paul has already begun talking about getting rid of the federal reserve and this will end the government's nearly endless money supply and deficit spending which is weakening our buying power. so if the dollar is strengthened the net effect is putting money in your pocket. revolts and anarchism sound great but if you look through world history, every revolt that used violence to overthrow an oppressor brought that violence back upon its citizens in one form or another. of course if you're the reincarnation of Gandhi and want to peacefully overthrow the government, i'm behind you all the way.
having a good system of government that has been hijacked by thieves is kind of almost a contradiction in terms. there are no good or bad systems that can't be made to work or colapse entirely by the cultural values they represent. none are immune to being usurped. anarchism, being an abscence of anything, might be a little difficult to remain anarchism, would even be a contradiction in terms if it were to be, but no more difficult to. i think idiological magic wands are somewhat of a mythical beastie. what we need to be paying attention to and looking for is ways to avoid screwing everything up for everyone, and we can't expect some arbitrary name of anything to do that for us. i believe we would also bennifit from not demonizing everything that refuses to kiss the ass of little green pieces of paper, or automaticly lumping it in with marxism. our political proccess wouldn't have been usurped, i don't believe, if we hadn't been so intent on putting trying to impress each other ahead of the kind of world we all have to live in. under any system. the irresistable force of monetery economics may not have a head to get it through, but the immovable object of natural reality isn't going anywhere. by which i mean that the natural consiquences of our actions arn't greatly affected by whatever economic excuses may have motivated us to commit them. i don't think, if we get another republican or a democrat who acts like a republican, that anyone is going to still believe there is a democratic proccess in america. i don't think what matters is whether or not there's a place called america, or any one place called any one thing, but rather the kinds of conditions that exist and are going to exist there/here. i don't think anyone needs to be led either. just coordinated from stumbling over each other, and i don't have any more faith in the hierarchies of economic interest then i do in those of idiology or belief. the things that are important are what will stop people from killing each other, robbing each other of the means to survive and find gratification and so on. environmentaly harmonious infrastructure, to the extent that there is any, to the extent that people demand their comfort zones that depend on it, is really the key to the whole ball of wax, not one political theory or another. and of course, not people killing each other for that either. vespucci was a map maker who never saw the place. there were people living here, learning from the land itself how to live on it, for ten thousand years before he was even born. =^^= .../\...
I like Ron Paul but I think his chances of being elected are slim. Many have still never heard of him, even though he's been one of the most outspoken and outstanding speakers in the debates right now. Funny isn't it how his comments at the debates get little or no coverage with the major media. All we hear about are Romney, Hillary, Obama, and the other riffraff.
Sad but true that many a good people who have ran for offices do not get the coverage of the others becuase of power, money and media agenda. Yes even the press has people they wish into office so coverage is set accordingly.
Ron Paul had a televised interview on CSpan last night and he came off looking great imho. Gardener I'm sure you're right when you say that he has only a slim chance of being elected BUT of the Republican hopefuls, he is the only one speaking the truth and not just want people want to hear. There are 18 months to go before the election and it seems to me that as long as we have voices and a place to speak, something can be done. The Bush Administration hasn't completely gutted the constitution yet. Meetup.com already has Ron Paul listed and it could be a good way to find other folks in your area looking to get him elected. Eventful.com is another way to let Ron Paul know you want him to visit your city. There's plenty that can be done yet and it's way too early for pessimism. "If the people lead, the leaders will follow." ~Bill Ellis
I hope we as the in "the voice of the people" can make that sort of difference. It would be great. And it would prove once and for all the power and true democracy of the internet.
I want to see Fred Thompson win the Republican nomination, and then the Presidency. That dude is a badass. But there are so many awesome Republican candidates. Its too bad Jeb Bush isn't running, but he probably wouldn't win anyway. McCain/Thompson, Thompson/Bush or McCain/Bush would all be dream tickets for me. The Democrats...are fucking frightening. Nothing but a bunch of unrealistic psychos. And the Republican National Convention will be in Minneapolis next year! I'll be there! Yeah! :H
Fred Thompson, you have to be kidding? He's a media celebrity brought into the mix to pull any focus that may be given to credible candidates like Ron Paul. No use talking to you if you feel Jeb Bush is presidential material. So sad!
This is gonna be fuckin great which retard have you got lined up this time? the world needs another good laugh - are any of ronnie regans family available?
Meh, I don't like the fact he's pro-life and pro"famile" which means no gay marriage right? I'm a bit slow on what they call anti-gay marriage now. But I'm still rooting for Barack Obama, we need a brother in office who can set priorities. I really want Barack to win, but knowing how racism is still here but under the rug it won't happen D;
It seems as if hillary has the best shot all around, she is democrat, bills wife, female, strongwilled, reasonable, speaks well, etc...
Agreed, but the scary thing is, in addition to derailing the economy as you point out, the thieves have changed our system of government, I just hope it's reversable. Though I'm opposed to the Republican platform on principal, a bi-partisan "us-vs-them" view toward politics is counter-productive IMO. What we need is a candidate who will take a stand against the corporate lobbyists, and fight for what's best for the majority of the people, instead of the best interests of the rich minority. If Ron Paul turns out to be that candidate, I'll vote for him. Unfortunately the candidacy is rigged to sell to the highest bidder, so it's doubtful someone like him will get a shot at it without selling out, but we'll see. I might've voted for McCain if he ran for President instead of Bush, though I'm dissapointed by his stand on the Iraqi issue. Thompson is a Hollywood corporate puppet, and anyone with the last name Bush need not apply, given Bush's low approval ratings. As for Hillary, if she can bring the country around to the way it was when her husband was in office, she's got my vote, though she's kind of a puppet as well (they all are). Not that I was ever a big fan of Clinton, but at least we had a sizeable budget surplus when he was in office, which somehow Bush/Cheney managed to turn into the most disastrous deficit in history, one that our kids and grand kids may be hard pressed to pay off. I'm also rooting for Barack Obama, but I'm sure the media will somehow associate his name with "Osama" the terrorist, which average ignorant Joe American will swallow, hook, line, and sinker.
Hillary is only riding on the people that think they will get Bill as well. Maybe they will. Maybe that's how politics works today. But sorry I don't vote for a person hoping their spouse will have more power. But I wasn't a Bill Clinton fan either. He passed NAFTA, and we've all seen how successful that was. Don't buy into name fame. The marketers are counting on it. If any of you would watch the debates, you'd see who has the answers, and it's not McCain, Clinton, Obama or the Mormon, and definitely not Gore or Lieberman. They had their chance.
Yeah, NAFTA was nothing to be proud of, and you're probably right, all those potential candidates seem to be towing the party line. The question then becomes whether to go for the lesser of the evils, or vote my conscience. I may go for the latter this time around, there's always the Green party...
I'm not sure what his personal opinion on gay marriage is, but his platform states it should be left as a state issue.
I would vote for Kucinich if I could. I would settle for a vet who has had combat experience if he was not a war monger. Not that it matters. Clinton was the last democratically elected president the US has had and will have.
