Are our physical bodies something that is bad, or something that we should distrust?

Can our physical bodies be used for anything?

No, not something bad or to be mistrusted, but should be identified to allay any suspicion. The body is a communication device.

i hope you don't mind me partaking cuz im not christian but i understand what you're saying.
I wouldn't say you can mistrust it or that it's bad because your body is the only thing you truly own in reality. If god took away anything other than your body away from you, it's expected to accept it. If god took away your body, it's understandable to feel resentment (if it's possible after death). If that's disagreed upon, i'd question the quality of life.
If thedope means communication device in terms of the communication between god and a person, i'd have to disagree cuz i think its the communication between mind and everything. "God" -> mind -> thoughts -> nerves -> body -> everything
thats kinda how i would lay it out so it's definitely open for changes.

I mean communication with each other and our environment. The body set to operate within a certain range of frequencies.

Why? It is an important question...

If our bodies are evil, then we cannot trust anything (because our entire experience of the world and of God are mitigated through the body).

If they are good, then why does our body desire sinful things?

The body has no desires, but it is an idolatrous devotion to consider the body, material, to be our source.

o ok sweet. i agree with you then :)
well doesn't that mean that either God doesn't care about you(or is evil), or that sins aren't bad? sounds like atheist thoughts. Repent! (thats what they say right?) :p

Well i was merely posing a dilemma.

My answer would be that in our bodies are good--but our own selfish desires make us abuse our God given bodies. When we punish our own bodies we do a couple things 1) unite with Christ's suffering on the Cross and 2) distract our desires for sinful things which lead to abuse of ourselves through pain/fasting/etc...

It's not our bodies that we should distrust. Distrust is reserved for our thoughts and our actions.

Our bodies aren't evil, but much of our thoughts are disconnected from God and this leads to delusional thoughts and these delusional thoughts lead to actions that are not of God.

What is wrong with sexual arousal? We do not control it.

A priest once said to me that sexual arousal was a gift from God. God wants life. We just have to know how to use it. How we respond to our sexual arousal is key.

Great post def: I would also like to add that delusion on the part of Eve in the story of the Fall was part of the series of things that lead to the fall--distortions and rationalizations also play a part in our sins.

Agreed. God imbibes us with passion. There are some called to live a life of solitude in monestaries, and other to live out their lives among their fellow man, with wives or husbands.

Why are we to distrust our bodies, this flesh given to us by God? Used in harmony with His wishes and our bodies are amazing things to be enjoyed. If we go outside of this laws and look other places we run the risk of becoming SLAVES to the flesh. Porn, alcohol, tobacco. these are all examples. I've had my life slain by all three and am STILL working on the tobacco, but free from the other two for a while. And I mean free.

There is so much freedom in Christ. He will lift the weight of any burden we give him. We have to freely give him our worries, our troubles, our addictions though. He will never TAKE something that we do not offer up.

There is a LOT of freedom in Christ.

Our bodies desire things necessary for our existence and propagation.

You sure shouldn't have a blind trust in anything, but that has nothing to do with your body being evil.

Hey, it's good to see you.:D

  17. My issues with body is control -- how much of your body is your own? You're forced to work it in conjunction with other people. Some people aren't very nice. And I don't like the idea of people controlling my body through their own will.

And I wonder just how physical it actually is. Or if what we're witnessing is really more like a dream and ethereal. It's better to believe it's really physical, 'cause it can't be penetrated. It's better, I find, to be really, really object. Regardless of whether that's true or not.

Though it is said that your body is your HUMAN NATURE in Christian concession from the divine; I will add: "You had no right."
