It depends really. Drudging up past memories, chemical imbalances, substance use...

I'm paranoid as I think I'M being haunted.I always get the feeling I'm being watched and hear strange thuds and noises.

well I think paranoia could come from a many number of thinks, stress about something, past memories, times, events.

but its normal I would think.. do some research.

Drugs! I also think a bored mind is a huge factor. Imagine how annoying it would be to own a mansion but only be allowed to use a few rooms--my brain.

I was a full blown paranoid android, slave to the suitcase of drugs I was living out of. Give a bored mind some stimulants and walla: I thought I could hear people thinking and see things happen before they did. I was so messed up that I took it to be the reality for everyone but something nobody talked about; I thought I was just new to it and didn't know how it worked.

When I watched Beautiful Mind I just had tears pouring down my face. There were a few years where my mind was trying to kill me, deconstruct me, leave me in an unravelled heap of wires tangled on the floor. I had some fun with drugs but they had an equal share of fun with me.
